In recent years, the incidence of breast cancer has continued to rise. Nearly 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in my country, especially in the eastern coastal areas and economically developed cities, where the increase in breast cancer incidence is more significant. Due to the high pressure in the workplace, many strong women have an increasingly fast pace of life, eat fast food all year round, and their weight soars rapidly. Little do people know that these all provide opportunities for breast cancer. Disposable lunch box Let’s talk about fast food first. Studies have found that disposable lunch boxes made of plastic or resin contain an estrogen-like substance called bisphenol A (BPA), which will seep out of the lunch box after being exposed to high temperatures and enter the body along with the food. Long-term low-dose intake of bisphenol A can cause breast duct hyperplasia, increase the sensitivity of breast tissue to estrogen, and cause precancerous lesions of breast tissue. Obesity Let’s talk about obesity. Studies have shown that obese women have a significantly increased risk of breast cancer. Fat tissue can produce considerable estrogen, and the higher the estrogen level, the more likely they are to develop breast cancer. Fast-paced lifestyle In addition, the fast pace of life also manifests itself in great psychological stress, depression, late marriage and childbearing, which are also closely related to the occurrence of breast cancer. So, if you are unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer, what treatment should you take? In the past, many cancer patients were afraid of cancer and blindly demanded the elimination of tumor cells. However, if breast cancer is treated as a chronic disease, it will be of great significance to both cancer patients and their families if we can reduce pain, prolong life as much as possible, and return to a normal life. In 1896, British expert Professor Beatson used resection to treat premenopausal advanced breast cancer, pioneering endocrine treatment of breast cancer. After more than a century of exploration and development, the safety and effectiveness of endocrine therapy as one of the important treatments for breast cancer has been recognized by most countries in the world. At present, major global guidelines, including the US NCCN guidelines, the European ESMO guidelines, and the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association's breast cancer diagnosis and treatment guidelines and standards, all unanimously recommend endocrine therapy as the first choice for patients with hormone receptor-positive advanced metastatic breast cancer. Ten years ago, the average survival period for patients with advanced breast cancer was about one year, and chemotherapy could extend it by another 4-6 months. Now, through a new mechanism of targeted endocrine therapy for breast cancer, four to five years or even long-term survival can be achieved. In my country, about 60% to 70% of breast cancer patients test positive for hormone receptors and are suitable for endocrine therapy. This is because breast cancer is a hormone-dependent tumor, and endocrine therapy inhibits the growth of tumor cells by lowering estrogen levels in the body or inhibiting the action of estrogen receptors, thereby reducing the chance of tumor recurrence and improving the cure rate after surgery. |
