What are the treatments for postpartum dandruff?

Many pregnant women will feel a lot of dandruff growing on their scalp after giving birth. These dandruffs will not only make our hair very greasy, but also affect our appearance. More serious patients will even get dandruff just after washing their hair. There is no way to completely remove it. This is a problem that most pregnant women will encounter after giving birth, so it should be treated.

For mild cases, apply 2% salicylic acid ointment locally and wash it off with cleansing shampoo after 1 to 2 hours. Using tar shampoo once a week will produce satisfactory results. There are three main types of medications for treating dandruff:

Antifungal drugs

Currently, the antifungal drugs used clinically to treat dandruff include ketoconazole, climbazole, selenium disulfide, etc. Among them, ketoconazole is the most effective in treating dandruff.

At low concentrations, ketoconazole can inhibit the synthesis of fungal ergosterol, thereby inhibiting the reproduction of Malassezia; at high concentrations, it can directly destroy the fungal cell membrane and exhibit a strong bactericidal effect. Ketoconazole has a high affinity for scalp proteins and can quickly form a protective film on the surface of the scalp, thereby exerting its effect continuously. In addition, ketoconazole does not undergo transdermal absorption and is highly safe.

Keratolytics

Keratolytics can effectively remove a certain proportion of stratum corneum cells and relieve clinical symptoms to a certain extent. Such products include coal tar, sulfur and salicylic acid. Long-term use of such products will damage the epidermal structure, disrupt the epidermis' own balance, and affect hair quality.

Dandruff cell growth inhibitor

Cytostatics mainly reduce the rate of stratum corneum cell replacement. As the length of the stratum corneum cycle is restored, the process of keratinization and desquamation is improved. However, many clinical experiments have shown that this type of drug cannot effectively control the clinical symptoms of dandruff. Moreover, its main ingredients are highly irritating, and the hair feels rough after use. It may also cause some cosmetic problems, especially for some sensitive skins, and there is an odor.

If your condition is not so serious, you can take some antifungal drugs for treatment. This is a method chosen by many patients, because this drug does not cause harm to your body, and it can completely remove dandruff on your scalp. It is very effective in treating dandruff.
