Why do pregnant women get hemorrhoids?

Many female friends will have varying degrees of hemorrhoids in the late pregnancy. This will not only cause some physical discomfort to pregnant women, but as the burden on them increases, the bacterial infection in the intestines will spread further and may enter the fetus through the umbilical cord, causing a lot of harm to the health of the fetus. In fact, it is best to identify the cause of hemorrhoids and then treat them.

With the increasing incidence of hemorrhoids, even many pregnant women suffer from hemorrhoids. Why do pregnant women get hemorrhoids? This cannot help but make people think, because when pregnant women develop hemorrhoids, it will have some impact on their special conditions during pregnancy, and may even have some adverse effects on the development of the fetus, endangering the health of two lives. Why do pregnant women get hemorrhoids? Let’s hear what the experts have to say.

Hemorrhoids are completely different from infectious abscesses in other parts of the body. They are a venous mass formed by the expansion, bending and bulging of the hemorrhoidal venous plexus in the mucosa of the lower rectum and the deep surface of the anal skin. Its occurrence is related to compression of hemorrhoidal veins, poor blood flow and external stimulation. Because the uterine veins and rectal veins are connected, the blood flow in the pelvic arteries of pregnant women increases during pregnancy to ensure the nutritional supply of the fetus. The uterus enlarges as the fetus grows, and the enlarged uterus compresses the pelvic veins, causing obstruction of venous blood return and congestion.

Furthermore, pregnant women's activities are reduced, gastrointestinal motility slows down, defecation is difficult and they may even suffer from constipation. The stool stays in the intestines for too long, and the water in the stool is easily absorbed, causing the stool to become lumpy and hard, resulting in constipation, and blood stasis in the hemorrhoidal venous plexus at the lower rectum and anus, thereby aggravating the degree of venous congestion, causing the veins in the anus to enlarge and thicken, twist into clumps, rupture, bleed, and cause pain, which then develops into hemorrhoids. If pregnant women suffer from hemorrhoids and bleed repeatedly, it will seriously affect their health and fetal development.

During pregnancy, as the fetus grows, the uterus gradually enlarges, which puts pressure on the inferior vena cava, obstructing blood return in the pelvic cavity. Blood in the venous plexus around the anus stagnates and becomes tortuous, which can easily lead to hemorrhoids.

In addition, pregnant women have low activity levels, slow gastrointestinal motility, and are prone to constipation. The clumps of feces compress the veins in the intestinal wall, making venous return more difficult. The need to exert force during defecation increases abdominal pressure, leading to dilation of the hemorrhoidal veins and possibly the formation of hemorrhoids.

Therefore, when pregnant, it is best for female friends to insist on moderate activities, which can speed up metabolism, promote normal gastrointestinal motility, and reduce the possibility of constipation. After constipation occurs, you can also use many dietary therapy methods to relieve it and try to avoid hemorrhoids caused by long-term constipation.
