Uterine cysts are a type of ovarian tumor in a broad sense. They can occur in people of all ages, but are most common in those aged 20-50 years. Ovarian malignant tumors are difficult to diagnose early because they rarely occur during the disease stage. 70% of them are in the late stage when they seek medical treatment, and they rarely receive early treatment. The 5-year survival rate has always hovered around 20-30%, making it one of the most serious malignant tumors that threaten women's lives. The ovaries are relatively small organs in the human body, but they are a common site for a variety of tumors. Ovarian tumors can have various properties and forms - single or mixed, unilateral or bilateral, cystic or solid, benign or malignant, and many ovarian tumors can produce female or male sex hormones.

(I) Clinical manifestations of benign uterine cysts

It develops slowly and is often asymptomatic in the early stages, and is often discovered accidentally during a gynecological examination. People with medium-sized tumors often feel a discomfort in the abdomen and can feel a lump that grows from one side of the lower abdomen upward. During gynecological examination, a spherical mass was felt on one side of the uterus. It was cystic or solid, with a smooth surface and no adhesion to the uterus. The elderly could move freely. Large or huge tumors that fill the pelvis and abdomen may cause compression symptoms such as frequent urination, constipation, shortness of breath, palpitations, etc. During gynecological examination, the vaginal vault is full and the lower pole of the tumor can be felt. The uterine body is located to the side or front and back of the tumor and moves with the cervix.

2. Clinical manifestations of malignant uterine cysts

There are usually no subjective symptoms in the early stages of minimally invasive cyst removal surgery, and when symptoms appear, the disease is often in the late stage. Due to the rapid growth of the tumor, abdominal distension, abdominal masses and ascites may occur in the short term. How the tumor infiltrates into surrounding tissues or compresses nerves can cause abdominal pain, back pain, or lower limb pain; if it compresses the pelvic veins, lower limb edema may occur; if it is a functional tumor, it can produce corresponding symptoms of excess estrogen or androgen. Late-stage patients show cachexia. During gynecological examination, scattered hard nodules can be felt in the posterior fornix of the vagina. The lumps are mostly lateral, solid or semi-solid, with an uneven surface, fixed, and often accompanied by bloody ascites. Sometimes swollen lymph nodes can be felt in the groin, armpits, or above the collarbone.

Uterine cyst is a pathological manifestation of chronic cervicitis. During the healing process of cervical cyst symptoms, the newly formed squamous epithelium covers the openings of the cervical glandular ducts or extends into the glandular ducts, blocking the openings of the glandular ducts. The hyperplasia of connective tissue or scar formation around the glandular duct compresses the glandular duct, causing it to narrow or even become blocked. The drainage of glandular secretions is obstructed and retained, forming cysts. The cysts vary in size, but are generally small and scattered. These symptoms of cervical cysts may occur alone or in combination.

The common cause of uterine cysts is similar to that of "acne" on the face. During the healing process of cervical erosion, the new squamous epithelium covers the opening of the cervical gland duct or extends into the gland duct, blocking the opening of the gland duct; the connective tissue around the gland duct proliferates or scars form, compressing the gland duct, causing the gland duct to narrow or even block, and the drainage of glandular secretions is obstructed. The cyst formed by retention is called cervical nabothian cyst.

Regarding the symptoms of uterine cysts, when examining cervical cysts, you can see multiple bluish-white cysts of varying sizes (not purple) protruding from the surface of the cervix. They contain mucus, and the small ones are as big as rice grains, the large ones are as big as corn kernels, and some can grow very large. Some cervical cysts will have the characteristic of protruding from the surface of the cervix, and some can even reach the vaginal opening. The root is connected to the cervix by a pedicle, and is often accompanied by cervical hypertrophy.
