Is non-gonococcal cervicitis contagious?

The health of our female compatriots has always been a matter of concern to everyone, but now many gynecological diseases have posed a serious threat to women's health. Among many gynecological diseases, non-gonococcal cervicitis has a relatively high incidence rate, and female patients are very afraid of this disease. So, is non-gonococcal cervicitis contagious? This disease is contagious. Please see the following introduction for more details about this disease.

Non-gonococcal cervicitis is a type of chronic cervicitis, generally referring to mucopurulent cervicitis (MPC) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma. It is an endocervicitis characterized by redness, swelling, easy bleeding and sticky and purulent secretions in the endometriotic area of the cervix. Domestic and foreign studies have shown that Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections can cause MPC. Mucopurulent cervicitis is divided into gonococcal cervicitis and chlamydial cervicitis, among which chlamydial and mycoplasma cervicitis, i.e. non-gonococcal cervicitis, are more serious.

Patients with non-gonococcal cervicitis often have a history of extramarital sexual contact. Or the spouse has a history of urethritis infection. The clinical manifestations include abnormal vaginal discharge, lower abdominal discomfort, urgency and pain when urinating, etc., but a considerable number of patients have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. Gynecological examination reveals cervical congestion and edema, easy bleeding when touched, and increased yellow viscous secretions.

According to the MPC criteria in the "Diagnostic Criteria and Treatment Principles for Sexually Transmitted Diseases" of the Disease Control Department of the Ministry of Health of my country: Clinically, female cervicitis symptoms such as cervical congestion and edema, easy bleeding when touched, mucopurulent secretions, and an average of >10 polymorphonuclear cells per field of view in cervical swab smears under a 1000x microscope are used as clinical observation indicators. Once the clinical diagnosis of MPC is established, pathogen testing should be performed if conditions permit, so that targeted treatment can be carried out after the cause is found. Regarding the pathogens of mucopurulent cervicitis, scholars at home and abroad currently believe that the main ones are Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Is non-gonococcal cervicitis contagious? Non-gonococcal cervicitis is a very torturous disease and can also cause adverse infections. Therefore, during the illness, patients need to pay attention to personal hygiene and refrain from sexual intercourse. In addition, don't be too afraid of this disease. Be brave and actively go to a regular hospital for treatment so that you can get rid of the disease as soon as possible.
