Causes of elevated D-dimer levels during pregnancy

Causes of elevated D-dimer levels during pregnancy

D-dimer is a routine test during prenatal check-ups. It is mainly used to detect changes in coagulation function and fibrinolytic activity before and after delivery. However, most pregnant women are not familiar with the D-dimer test. Next, let me tell you what D-dimer is and what the standard range of D-dimer for pregnant women is.

What is D-dimer?

D-dimer is also called free fatty acid dissociation substance d (DD), which mainly refers to the dissociation substance of free fatty acid/fibrinogen. D-dimer is a specific indicator for diagnosing secondary hyperfibrinolysis. The examination of DD value in pregnant women can rule out the occurrence of deep venous occlusion (DVT) and help to diagnose serious indications for cesarean section.

Generally speaking, the DD concentration of pregnant women increases from the beginning of pregnancy until the end of delivery. This makes it difficult to test the DD value to rule out deep vein thrombosis (VTE).

D-dimer standard value range for pregnant women

At present, doctors have found in clinical medicine that the DD values of different pregnant women are different, but there is no difference in the age of the pregnant women, pregnancy age, pregnancy frequency, parity, blood cell count, coagulation function indexes or liver function tests. The standard ranges of D-dimer for pregnant women are 0.64 mg/L, 1.54 mg/L, 2.60 mg/L, 3.01 mg/L, and 3.19 mg/L for those ≤ 13 weeks, 14-20 weeks, 21-27 weeks, 28-34 weeks, and ≥ 35 weeks of pregnancy, respectively.

Abnormal D-dimer in pregnant women

If the D-dimer of a pregnant woman is abnormal, it will lead to poor coagulation function. Poor coagulation function actually means that the bleeding is difficult to regulate or even cannot stop. Pregnant women with poor coagulation function are prone to internal bleeding during the delivery period, which is seriously endangering their lives.

The above is an introduction to D-dimer. In fact, all examinations during pregnancy are to ensure the health of the pregnant woman herself and the fetus. Therefore, pregnant friends must pay great attention to it, so that abnormal problems can be discovered in advance and appropriate measures can be taken for treatment in time to reduce the occurrence of adverse conditions and the harm of diseases to the lives of mothers and babies.
