What to do if your menstruation does not stop for a month

Menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon for women. It occurs every month in female friends. The menstrual cycle is generally 6 to 10 days. However, for some female friends, the menstrual cycle may last up to a month. This abnormal condition is caused by functional uterine bleeding. When this symptom occurs, there are many treatment methods that can be used. Today I will introduce two of them to you.

1. Medical curettage

For unmarried patients, try not to consider curettage, or use medical curettage instead. Medical curettage is aimed at the pathophysiological changes caused by the lack of progesterone in patients with anovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Progesterone is injected intramuscularly into the patient, 20 mg per day, for 3 days, and the endometrium is transformed into the secretory phase. The drug is then discontinued, causing an artificial drop in blood progesterone levels. At this time, the endometrium is regularly shed and bleeding occurs, which is called "withdrawal bleeding". This bleeding is similar to a menstrual period and lasts for about 7 days. Sometimes the amount is large, which is expected and inevitable.

In order to reduce the amount of withdrawal bleeding, testosterone propionate (a male hormone preparation) can be injected at the same time as progesterone is injected intramuscularly, 25 to 50 mg per day for 3 days. If the amount of blood is still large, the patient should rest in bed and take general hemostatic drugs such as vitamin K, hemostatics, vitamin C, hemostatic aromatic acid orally or intramuscularly, or even glucose solution or blood transfusion. Estrogen and progestin preparations should not be used during withdrawal bleeding.

2. Estrogen hemostasis method

If a young, unmarried patient with functional uterine bleeding suffers from severe anemia (hemoglobin <7.0 g/L) due to excessive blood loss or other problems, and curettage surgery is not yet possible, and the patient cannot accept the withdrawal blood loss caused by the "medical curettage" described above, such a patient should be hospitalized.

If a female friend finds that her menstruation does not stop for a month, she should consider whether it is functional uterine bleeding. Functional uterine bleeding is not a particularly serious disease. You don’t need to worry too much if you encounter such symptoms. As long as you go to a regular hospital in time and actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment, you will be cured soon.
