How to diagnose Trichomonas vaginalis

How to diagnose Trichomonas vaginalis

Trichomonas vaginalis is a common disease among women. It usually occurs in the vagina and urethra and is contagious. Therefore, once a woman suffers from this disease, she should go to the hospital for treatment in time. For women, the hygiene of private parts needs special attention and treatment must not be delayed. Next, we will introduce the diagnosis method of vaginal Trichomonas vaginalis in detail.

Female patients mainly have symptoms of vaginitis, typically manifested by increased vaginal discharge and moderate to severe vulvar itching. Vaginal discharge is thin, yellow-green, foamy, and may have a foul odor. The pH value of vaginal fluid increases significantly, often >5.0. Examination shows that the vaginal mucosa is congested, red and swollen, with scattered small hemorrhages. The cervical erythema, edema and punctate hemorrhages give it a characteristic strawberry-like appearance. The posterior fornix is often filled with thin, gray-yellow, foamy leucorrhea, which is characteristic. Some patients may experience dyspareunia and dysuria. If the latter occurs, it indicates a concurrent urethral Trichomonas infection. The symptoms of this disease often fluctuate with the menstrual cycle, and generally worsen after the menstrual period. Trichomoniasis in men often infects the prostate and urethra. Most men are asymptomatic and present as carriers of the worms, but this often leads to repeated infections of their sexual partners. In addition, Trichomonas vaginalis is also one of the causes of non-gonococcal urethritis in men. The patient may intermittently have a small amount of clear urethral secretions, and may experience urinary pain and itching of the glans penis. Most cases of trichomoniasis in men are self-limited, which may be due to the anti-trichomoniasis components in male prostatic fluid.

Diagnosis of Trichomonas Urethritis

1. Symptoms include itching and burning pain at the urethral opening, accompanied by frequent urination, urgency, pain and terminal hematuria. The urethral opening is red and swollen, and there is a small amount of colorless, transparent, thin or milky secretions. When you wake up in the morning, there is a small amount of secretion attached to the urethra.

2. Laboratory examination: Take fresh urethral secretions or urine, prostatic fluid, add saline smear microscopy, you can find active Trichomonas.

Before collecting the specimen, the perineum and the area around the urethral opening should be cleaned. When collecting specimens, the test tube should be placed close to the urethral opening. The specimen should be kept warm before examination. It can be checked repeatedly and cultured if necessary.

3. Cystourethroscopy can observe congestion in the posterior urethra, bladder neck, and trigone, with small red papillary polyp-like protrusions and a thin layer of flocs attached.

The above contents are some diagnostic methods for Trichomonas vaginalis. In fact, in life, everyone needs to clean the body frequently. Although Trichomonas vaginalis is a very common disease, if it is not treated in time, it may develop into other gynecological diseases, so women must pay attention to their physical condition.
