Introduction to the number of days of confinement

In our daily life, many young women who have just given birth start to wash their hair or take a bath within ten days after the confinement period. However, they do not know that this can cause great harm to the body. So many people want to know, how many days does it take to recover the body after confinement? Let’s take a look at it together.

Women have three excellent opportunities to improve their physical constitution in their lifetime, namely menarche, postpartum confinement, and menopause, especially the childbearing period. It is the greatest opportunity to change a woman's physical constitution. With correct dietary supplements and adequate rest, she can restore her pre-pregnancy appearance, restore the elasticity of deformed internal organs, and transform her physical constitution. If the confinement period is not taken properly, she may age ten years after giving birth, become shaped like a barrel, lose physical strength, suffer from osteoporosis, lose calcium, and enter menopause early. The skin is aging and has no luster, so make good use of the confinement period to create a healthy and happy second half of your life.

Western Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology:

It takes about 42 days from the delivery of the placenta to the recovery of all organs in the body (except the breasts) to or near the non-pregnant state. This period is called the puerperium, commonly known as "confinement month". During the postpartum period, the breasts need to secrete milk, the uterus needs to recover, and various systems need to gradually return to normal, with the blood concentrating, sweating increasing, urine volume increasing, and the digestive system returning to normal. Therefore, whether the confinement period is good or not is crucial to a woman's health throughout her life. It means that the lifestyle, diet and rest methods are different from those in normal life.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that:

The most basic physiological changes in a parturient are "deficiency" and "stasis". The weak ones, due to birth injuries and bleeding during childbirth, as well as the exertion during childbirth, which consumes qi and damages blood, resulting in deficiency of both qi and blood. The so-called "emptiness of all joints" after childbirth is exactly this meaning. Due to the above physiological characteristics of postpartum women, the pathological changes that occur clinically can be summarized into three points: first, loss of blood and damage to body fluids, which can easily lead to other diseases; second, the remaining blood is turbid at night, which can easily cause blood stasis; third, the body is weak after childbirth, which is easy to be affected by the six evils.

As for the number of days for confinement, you can determine it based on your physical condition. Abroad, many foreigners recover very well and don’t need to observe confinement at all. But because the physiques of people in China are different, everyone can take 30 to 20 days of rest.
