How many days is normal for menstruation?

Almost every woman has experienced menstruation. There is a certain regularity in the timing and cycle, but each person is different. So when does it start, when does it end, and how many days are normal? In fact, there is no standard, because in addition to a person's own physique and genetic factors, it is also affected by other external environmental and psychological factors. Let's explore it here.

1. The first menstrual period is called menarche. Most cases occur between the ages of 13 and 15, but it may be as early as 11 to 12 years old or as late as 17 to 18 years old. The age of menarche in different regions of my country is not much different, but those who are weak or malnourished may have a later menarche, while those who are strong and well-nourished may have an earlier menarche. Menstruation stops spontaneously at around the age of 49, lasting about 35 years.

2. The first day of bleeding (i.e. menstruation) is called the beginning of the menstrual cycle. The interval between the first days of two menstrual periods is called a menstrual cycle, which is generally 28 to 30 days, which is about the same as a lunar month. The length of the cycle varies from person to person. Occasionally, a period that is advanced or delayed by no more than 7 days can still be considered normal. That is, the menstrual cycle should not be less than 21 days and not more than 35 days. Menstruation stops during pregnancy and lactation.

3. Menstrual period refers to the duration of menstrual bleeding. Normal menstruation lasts 2 to 7 days, usually 4 to 5 days. Menstrual flow refers to the amount of blood discharged during menstruation. The amount of menstrual flow is difficult to calculate, but clinically, a rough estimate of the amount is often made by changing menstrual pads daily. Some people have measured that the normal menstrual blood volume is about 10 to 58 ml, and some women's menstrual volume can exceed 100 ml. Some people believe that monthly blood loss of more than 80 ml is a pathological condition. Generally, the heaviest bleeding occurs on the 2nd to 3rd day of menstruation. Due to differences in individual physique, age, climate, region and living conditions, menstrual volume may increase or decrease slightly, which is normal.

4. Menstrual color refers to the color of menstrual blood. Menstrual blood is generally dark red. It starts out lighter, then gradually darkens, and finally turns light red and clear. In addition to blood, it also contains endometrial fragments, cervical mucus and vaginal epithelial cells. The main characteristic of menstrual blood is that it does not coagulate, but under normal circumstances there are occasionally some small clots.

5. Menstrual quality refers to the properties of menstrual blood. Under normal circumstances, the menstrual quality is neither thin nor thick, is not easy to coagulate, has no obvious blood clots, and has no special smell. Pathological changes in menstrual content are not only common menstrual diseases, but also an important basis for clinical differentiation of syndromes. Understanding the changes in menstrual quality can provide important diagnostic information for clinical practice. When women have their menstrual period and their menstrual blood is thick or sticky, it is called "thick menstrual blood".

Above we have discussed the age range of female menarche and amenorrhea, as well as the reference data on the cycle and menstrual period. At the same time, we can also use the observation of the color and texture of menstrual blood as a basis for clinical examination and diagnosis of diseases. Female friends need to have a clear understanding of these relevant data and information in order to promptly detect their own menstrual abnormalities for timely examination and treatment.
