3. Kidney Yin and Yang Deficiency

Symptoms: irregular menstruation before and after menstruation, scanty or heavy menstruation; alternating hot and cold, hot sweats, dizziness, tinnitus, forgetfulness, fear of cold and wind, edema, cold pain in the waist and back; pale tongue, thin coating, and weak pulse.

Drug composition: 6 grams of cooked aconite, 5 grams of roasted ginger, 9 grams of roasted licorice, 30 grams of Codonopsis pilosula, 18 grams of Atractylodes macrocephala, 30 grams of Polygonum multiflorum, and 30 grams of Rhizoma Cibotii.

Indications: Spleen and kidney yang deficiency leading to premenopausal menorrhagia, many blood clots, pale and dark complexion, pale and dark tongue, and deep and weak pulse.

2. Blood-nourishing, Heart-calming and Spirit-soothing Soup

Drug composition: 24 grams of purple salvia miltiorrhiza, 1.2 grams of amber powder (taken with water), 12 grams of poria, 30 grams of magnetite, 15 grams of Qinglongchi, 30 grams of purple betel nut, 3 grams of nine-section calamus, 30 grams of Huai wheat, 15 grams of red dates, and 6 grams of roasted licorice.

Indications: Deficiency of Yin and excess of fire, malnutrition of the heart and kidneys, leading to palpitations, insomnia, irritability, anger, sadness and crying, etc.

Dosage and Administration: Decoction in water, once a day.

3. Qingxuan Pinggan Decoction

Drug composition: 9 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus, Rehmannia root, White Peony Root, Mulberry Leaf, Chrysanthemum, Scutellaria baicalensis, Ligustrum lucidum, and Eclipta prostrata, 12 grams of Achyranthes bidentata, and 30 grams of Trichosanthes kirilowii.

Indications: Menopausal syndrome of Yin deficiency and liver hyperactivity, with symptoms including headache, nausea, abdominal distension and pain, dry stool, dark red tongue, and slippery pulse.

Dosage and Administration: Decoction in water, one dose per day.

4. Qingxin Zishen Decoction

Drug composition: 15 grams of Uncaria rhynchophylla, 3-5 grams of Coptis chinensis, 10 grams each of Paeonia suffruticosa, Purple Betel nut (pre-boiled), Chinese yam, Cornus officinalis, and Poria cocos, 5 grams of lotus seed core, 10 grams each of Lithospermum officinale and Albizzia julibrissin bark, and 30 grams of floating wheat.

Indications: Kidney Yin deficiency menopause syndrome. Early menstruation, scanty or heavy menstruation, or metrorrhagia, or amenorrhea, bright red or purple menstrual blood without blood clots, hot flashes and sweating, dizziness, restlessness, anxiety, back pain, palpitations and insomnia, dry stool, red tongue with little coating, and thin, stringy and rapid pulse.

Dosage and Administration: Decoction in water, one dose per day for two months.
