Women should avoid the misunderstanding of blood supplementation in health care

Women are elves created with blood and energy. From ancient times to the present, beautiful women have been called "red beauties", which shows the benefits of blood to women. In reality, most women have symptoms of anemia or mild anemia. For this reason, women should pay more attention to blood supplementation. However, women do not know much about how to nourish and replenish blood, so they are prone to fall into misunderstandings about blood replenishment.

Myth 1: Eating too much meat is bad for your health

Some women are misled by general advertisements that meat is harmful to health, and only focus on the health benefits of plant-based foods, resulting in too little intake of animal foods rich in iron. In fact, animal foods are not only rich in iron, but also have a high absorption rate of 25%.

The iron in plant foods is interfered by the phytates, oxalates, etc. contained in the foods, and the absorption rate is very low, about 3%. Therefore, avoiding meat can easily cause iron deficiency anemia. In daily diet, the intake of vegetables, fruits and meat should be balanced.

Myth 2: Eggs and milk are good for people with anemia

Milk is nutritious enough, but the iron content is very low, and the human body's absorption rate is only 10%. For example, infants and young children who are fed with milk often suffer from iron deficiency anemia if their parents neglect to add complementary foods. Egg yolk is good for iron supplementation. Although the iron content in egg yolk is relatively high, its iron absorption rate is only 3%, making it not a good iron supplement.

Certain proteins in eggs can inhibit the body's absorption of iron. Therefore, although these two foods that women often eat are rich in nutrients, it is not advisable to rely on them to supplement iron. However, animal liver not only contains high iron, but also has an absorption rate of over 30%, making it suitable for iron supplementation.

Myth 3: Fruits and vegetables are not good for iron supplementation

Many people don’t know that eating more vegetables and fruits is also good for iron supplementation. This is because fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C, citric acid and malic acid. These organic acids can form complexes with iron, thereby increasing the solubility of iron in the intestine and facilitating iron absorption.

Myth 4: Drinking more coffee and tea is fine

For women, excessive drinking of coffee and tea may lead to iron deficiency anemia. This is because the tannic acid in tea and the polyphenols in coffee can form insoluble salts with iron, inhibiting iron absorption. Therefore, women should drink coffee and tea in moderation, one or two cups a day is enough.

Myth 5: Stop taking iron supplements when anemia improves

It is also a wrong practice for people with anemia to take iron supplements according to the doctor's instructions and then stop taking them when they see that their anemia condition has improved or stabilized. This could result in a recurrence of anemia.

The correct way is to take iron supplements to treat iron deficiency anemia until the anemia stabilizes, and then continue to take iron supplements for 6 to 8 weeks to replenish the body's stored iron.

Myth 6: Brown sugar is good for replenishing blood

There has always been a popular saying among the people that brown sugar water can replenish blood. Women often drink brown sugar water to replenish blood during menstruation and after giving birth. However, experts point out that brown sugar water does not have the magical effects of replenishing blood as folk legends say.

Experts say that brown sugar does not have the magical effects that people have said it would have, such as "replenishing qi and blood", "promoting uterine contraction, expelling postpartum blood stasis in the uterine cavity, and promoting early recovery of the uterus". In fact, brown sugar does not have any effective ingredients for replenishing blood, and brown sugar is not purified enough and may contain impurities.
