Strong hand

For middle-aged and elderly people, grip strength is an important indicator. It not only reflects muscle strength, but also has a relationship with the risk of death from disease. A domestic study followed up nearly 40,000 people for nearly 8 years and found that for every 5 kg decrease in grip strength, the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events increased by 14%, the risk of all-cause mortality increased by 12%, and the risk of cardiovascular mortality increased by 16%.

There are similar studies abroad. A study published in The Lancet measured and tracked nearly 1.4 million people in 17 countries and found that for every 5 kg decrease in grip strength, the risk of death from illness increased by 16%, the risk of death from heart disease increased by about 17%, and the risk of stroke increased by 9%.

Even if factors such as age and smoking are excluded, weak grip is still closely related to increased risk of death. Therefore, it is better to practice grip strength more often, such as holding a fitness ball.

Walking fast

A 2022 study analyzed the walking data of more than 400,000 people and found that people who walk fast are not only likely to live longer, but their biological age is also younger than those who walk slowly!

Walking speed is related to "leukocyte telomere length", an indicator of physical aging. People who walk faster have significantly longer leukocyte telomere length. The difference between the two is equivalent to a 16-year age difference ! When you go out in the future, you might as well take bigger steps and walk faster.

Slightly fat, thin waist

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study on people over 80 years old. After collecting the body data of 5,306 elderly people, it was found that those who were slightly fat and had thin waists had the lowest risk of death. For every 1 kg/m2 increase in body mass index, the risk of all-cause death decreased by 4.5%.

However, there is a range for being slightly overweight here, and it does not encourage people to gain weight without restraint . The risk of death is lowest when the body mass index is around 28 kg/m2. For people of the same height and weight, the one with a thin waist has a lower risk of death.

Thick thighs

Many people dislike their thick thighs and think they are not good-looking, but in fact, thick thighs may be a good thing and one of the characteristics of longevity. Studies have shown that people with the thickest thighs have longer chromosome telomeres than those with the thinnest thighs, and their all-cause mortality rate is 43% lower.

Other studies have shown that for every 5 cm increase in thigh circumference, the risk of all-cause mortality decreases by 18%. People with thick thighs are also more likely to prevent metabolic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart failure. So, don't worry about your thick thighs anymore.

Good attitude

People with a good attitude and optimism are more likely to live longer. A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America evaluated and followed up people of different ages and genders over a long period of time and found that the optimistic group lived about 10% longer than the pessimistic group.

Optimistic people tend to have healthier lifestyles, such as loving exercise and not smoking. They also have strong emotional regulation abilities, can better cope with stress and difficulties, have less psychological stress, and are healthier. When encountering something, you might as well think about the positive side.
