How long after abortion surgery should I have a follow-up check

Generally speaking, miscarriage can cause great harm to female friends, whether it is a natural miscarriage or an abortion surgery. Some expectant mothers choose abortion for various reasons, and in order to find out whether it is a complete abortion, they need a follow-up visit. So, how long does it take to follow up after an abortion?

After a miscarriage, if there are no abnormal phenomena, it is generally better to go for a follow-up visit one month after the menstruation. Because at this time, the uterine wall of most women has already recovered to normal. In the case of miscarriage, even if there is a small amount of residual blood, it will generally be discharged from the body along with the menstrual blood.

However, if the abortion process is not very satisfactory, such as heavy bleeding, and the doctor thinks the scraping is not very clean, it is best to return for a follow-up visit ten days after the abortion. Because in such a situation, we need to avoid any residual test tube embryo tissue. After a dozen days, we can go to the hospital for an intravaginal B-ultrasound to check the condition inside the uterus.

If everything is normal, don't come back for a follow-up visit after one month. If tissue residue is found, it depends on how much is left. If it is more than 20 mm and accompanied by blood signals, this situation may require a curettage. If it is less than 20 mm, you can take some blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing medicines. Wait until your period is over to see if the fluid will leak out.

Common problems after abortion

1. Pay attention to rest and improve nutrition. You should rest in bed for 2-3 days after the abortion, then you can get out of bed and move around, and gradually increase your activity level. Do not engage in heavy physical work or work in cold water within half a month after the abortion to avoid catching a cold. Pay attention to increasing nutrition, eat more fish, meat, eggs, beans and other protein-rich foods and fruits rich in vitamins to promote the repair of the uterine wall.

2. Keep the vulva clean and refrain from sexual intercourse. After an abortion, the cervix has not completely closed, and the uterine wall also has a repair process. During this period, you must pay attention to maintaining daily cleaning of the vulva, and wash and change sanitary napkins and underwear frequently. You do not need to take a bath in a tub within about half a month after the operation to prevent turbid water from entering the vagina and causing infection. If you have sex too soon after an abortion, it can easily lead to subacute endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and secondary infertility. Therefore, couples are prohibited from having sexual intercourse within one month after an abortion.

3. Observe the bleeding situation. If vaginal bleeding lasts for more than one week after abortion, or is even accompanied by lower abdominal pain, fever, turbid discharge with odor and other abnormal symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a follow-up examination in time.

4. Adhere to good contraceptive measures. After abortion, the functions of the uterus, ovaries and uterus gradually recover, and the uterus and ovaries ovulate on time. If you do not persist in taking contraceptive measures, you will get pregnant again soon. Therefore, after an abortion, a reliable contraceptive method should be chosen as soon as possible, and contraception should always be the main method. Abortion should not be used as a substitute for contraceptive sterilization surgery.
