The "divine beasts" have finally started school, but after the homework check, we must not be careless about the prevention of infectious diseases. Chickenpox, a seasonal infectious disease, has quietly entered its peak period. This month, the Department of Dermatology of Hunan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine admitted a pregnant woman who was 21 weeks pregnant and had chickenpox. Chickenpox is highly contagious. How to prevent chickenpox? Is it still useful to get vaccinated after contact with a chickenpox patient? Will you not get chickenpox if you get the chickenpox vaccine? Dermatology will answer these questions one by one. Chickenpox is an infectious disease caused by a virus called varicella-zoster virus. The initial infection manifests as chickenpox, which is usually transmitted through air and contact, is highly contagious, and will cause a rash. It usually starts on the face, chest and back. After recovery, the virus will remain dormant in the human body. When the human immune system decreases, the latent virus is activated and can cause shingles. Herpes zoster is characterized by the appearance of clustered blisters along the peripheral nerves on one side of the body in a band-like distribution, often accompanied by local neuralgia. Vaccination against varicella is currently the most effective and economical measure to prevent the spread of varicella. Although vaccination cannot completely prevent infection with varicella, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, after two vaccinations against varicella, the protective effect can reach more than 95%. It is also effective to get vaccinated promptly after contact with a chickenpox patient, because the chickenpox virus has not yet replicated in large quantities in the body when the patient has just come into contact with the patient. Timely vaccination helps control the chickenpox virus. It is generally recommended to get the vaccine within 24 hours. If the time is too long, the virus will replicate in the human body in large quantities, and the antibodies produced by a small amount of vaccine cannot prevent the progression of the disease. If you develop clinical symptoms such as rash, fever, and blisters after contact with a chickenpox patient, you need to receive antiviral treatment in time. Finally, let us work together to prevent and control diseases in the new semester, meet new challenges with a healthy attitude, and start a wonderful campus life!
