Falling while boarding an airplane, the consequences of an elderly person falling can be serious

China Science and Technology News Network, February 23 (Xu Qiqi) According to The Paper, on February 22, local time, 80-year-old US President Biden returned to the United States after his visit to Poland. He tripped over the gangway when boarding Air Force One. The video shows that Biden suddenly leaned forward when boarding the plane, with his hands under him, but he quickly stood up. However, US media said that the person who fell was actually a female White House staff member.

As people age, their physiological functions decline, and they may fall if they are not careful. Compared with falls of young people, the consequences of falls of the elderly are usually more dangerous. Statistics show that falls are the fourth leading cause of injury-related death in my country, and the first among the elderly over 65 years old.

Generally speaking, the elderly are more likely to fall when getting up, getting up at night, taking the elevator, taking a shower, etc. If the elderly fall with their chest on the ground, it is likely to cause rib fractures. The patient will mainly experience chest pain and difficulty breathing. The pain will worsen when taking a deep breath, coughing or turning the body position. In severe cases, shock may occur. If the elderly fall on the buttocks, it may cause femoral head fractures, lumbar compression fractures, spinal cord fractures, etc.

After the above problems occur, the elderly usually need to stay in bed to recuperate, but long-term bed rest may slow down the blood flow in the lower limbs, which may lead to lower limb venous thrombosis. In addition, long-term bed rest may also cause bedsores, and poor care may cause infection.

If you see an elderly person fall, you can pat their shoulders and call loudly in their ears to see if they have lost consciousness. Then call the emergency number. If the elderly person has external injuries, you can stop the bleeding first. Do not rush to support or shake the elderly after they fall, especially if they fall due to cerebral hemorrhage or subarachnoid hemorrhage. Do not help them up immediately, otherwise it may cause serious bleeding.
