CounterPoint: Global refurbished smartphone market to grow 5% in 2024, iPhone market share to rise to 56%

According to a report from market research firm CounterPoint Research, in the refurbished mobile phone market in 2024, the value retention of iPhones is still far ahead of the Android camp. In 2024, the global refurbished smartphone sales market continued to grow by 5%, and Apple further consolidated its market dominance. Due to the shortage of new iPhones, the average selling price of Apple refurbished phones has declined, but the share of 5G phones in the refurbished market has increased significantly. The report pointed out that Apple almost single-handedly promoted the growth of the second-hand mobile phone market in 2024, with its market share rising from 51% in 2023 to 56%.

Compared to Apple, Samsung is the best performer in the Android camp, with its market share rising from 54% in 2023 to 27%.

As for the domestic mobile phone camp, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei performed basically the same, and their market share has not changed much compared to 2023.

In general, more and more consumers are turning to the second-hand market to buy more affordable iPhones. As for Android phones, Samsung is the first choice, while the second-hand attention to domestic mobile phones is not too high (in the global market, the Chinese market is another matter).
