Similarweb: Xiaohongshu's daily active users in the United States surged to 3.4 million in January 2025, with nearly 3 million new users in one day

According to Reuters, the latest data from analytics firm Similarweb showed that with the influx of "TikTok refugees", Xiaohongshu's daily active users in the United States increased by nearly 3 million in one day this Monday.

According to Similarweb estimates, as of Monday, Xiaohongshu had about 3.4 million daily active users on iOS and Android devices in the United States, up from less than 700,000 the day before and about 300,000 a week ago. This data suggests that more American users have switched to Xiaohongshu this week than previously known, which also explains why it has quickly risen to the top of the US app store download rankings. Reuters reported on Tuesday that more than 700,000 new users joined Xiaohongshu in just two days.

Xiaohongshu's user growth in the United States has outpaced TikTok's sister app Lemon8. In November, ByteDance linked the login functions of TikTok and Lemon8, allowing one account to log in to both apps. Lemon8 is a lifestyle app similar to Xiaohongshu, and while it has experienced some user growth, the growth has been relatively modest. As of Monday, Lemon8 had 1.7 million daily active users in the United States, up from about 1.1 million in previous weeks, according to Similarweb.

At the same time, TikTok, which faces the threat of a ban, has seen a decline in daily active users. Similarweb said that on a weekly basis, TikTok's daily active users in the United States fell 2.1% from the previous month to around 82.2 million.
