China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: Domestic smartphone shipments in 2022 will reach 264 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 23.1%

The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released a report pointing out that in December 2022, domestic smartphone shipments reached 26.839 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 17.9%, accounting for 96.3% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. In December 2022, 33 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 28.3%, accounting for 78.6% of the number of new smartphone models launched in the same period. In 2022, a total of 351 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 13.1%, accounting for 83.0% of the number of new models launched in the same period.

1. Overall situation of domestic mobile phone market

In December 2022, the domestic market shipped 27.86 million mobile phones, a year-on-year decrease of 16.6%. Among them, 5G mobile phones shipped 23.234 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%, accounting for 83.4% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In 2022, the total shipments of mobile phones in the domestic market reached 272 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 22.6%. Among them, the shipments of 5G mobile phones reached 214 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 19.6%, accounting for 78.8% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In December 2022, 42 new mobile phone models were launched in China, a year-on-year decrease of 25.0%. Among them, 18 5G mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 25.0%, accounting for 42.9% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

In 2022, a total of 423 new mobile phone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%. Among them, there were 220 5G mobile phones, a year-on-year decrease of 3.1%, accounting for 52.0% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

2. Composition of domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market

In December 2022, the shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones was 21.984 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 22.8%, accounting for 78.9% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 40 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 20.0%, accounting for 95.2% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

In 2022, the total shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 229 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 24.7% , accounting for 84.2% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period ; the total number of new models launched was 386, a year-on-year decrease of 11.9%, accounting for 91.3% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

III. Development of domestic smartphones
