Sensor Tower: SHEIN ranked second in the global shopping app download rankings in the first half of 2021

The 2002 pandemic caused a surge in online shopping worldwide. With the popularization of vaccines in the first half of this year, the number of shopping app downloads has slightly declined, but the trend of online shopping remains unstoppable. Sensor Tower counted the number of downloads (first installations) on the App Store and Google Play from January 1 to June 16, 2021. Let's take a closer look:

In the first half of 2021 (as of June 22), global shopping app downloads reached 2.47 billion times, slightly higher than 2.38 billion times in the same period last year, and an increase of 32% compared with the first half of 2019.

India, the United States and Brazil are the three markets with the highest downloads in the world, accounting for 14%, 12% and 10% of total downloads respectively.

Sensor Tower's ranking of the world's top 10 popular apps shows that in the first half of 2021, Amazon Shopping retained its top spot in the global shopping app download list, with a total of 78.8 million downloads. SHEIN's downloads were about 75 million, surpassing Shopee and Wish to rank second, and it is also the world's number one mobile fast fashion brand. There are 6 domestic apps on the list, but Taobao fell from 7th last year to 8th. Pinduoduo ranked 9th last year and was not on the list this year, while Pinduoduo ranked 6th in 2019.

In the US market, Amazon Shopping ranked first with 13.8 million downloads, and SHEIN jumped from sixth in 2020 to second. Relevant reports show that in Q2 2021, SHEIN was the largest shopping advertiser on Instagram and Facebook.

In the Brazilian market, Shopee ranked first with 25 million downloads, while local manufacturer Americanas ranked fourth and SHEIN ranked second.

In the Indonesian market, Shopee ranks first, Lazada ranks second, and JD.com ranks sixth.

In the Saudi Arabian market, SHEIN surpassed Saudi Arabia's local e-commerce noon shopping to rank first, and another Chinese cross-border e-commerce platform Jollychic rose from 6th last year to 4th.
