Sensor Tower: Global Twitch mobile installations reached 22 million in Q1 2021, a year-on-year increase of 62%

The global outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 has led to a surge in people's demand for entertainment on mobile devices, which has led to explosive growth in Twitch downloads. This growth momentum has continued this year. Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data shows that as the world's most popular live streaming platform, Twitch mobile received 22 million downloads in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 62% from 13.6 million downloads in the same period of 2020.

Last March, many countries around the world began to implement home orders, and the number of downloads of Twitch mobile began to surge. In 2020, Twitch mobile received a total of 80.6 million downloads worldwide, an increase of 134% from 34.5 million downloads in 2019.

     Twitch's Focus Market

The United States is Twitch's largest market. In 2020, its mobile version received 17.6 million downloads in the United States, an increase of 91% compared to 2019. In the first quarter of this year, the app was downloaded 5 million times in the United States, an increase of 61% from the first quarter of 2020 (3 million times).

Over the past year, Twitch's fastest-growing market has been India, with downloads from India growing to 2.2 million in 2020, a 588% increase from 320,000 in 2019. In the first quarter of this year, downloads from the Indian market were 280,000, a 146% increase from 114,000 in the same period of 2020.

   MAU grows simultaneously

As downloads grew, Twitch's mobile monthly active users also grew globally since March last year. In March this year, the app's MAU increased by 69% compared to the same period last year.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, mobile users’ consumption habits have changed dramatically, and the impact of the epidemic is far from over. In the near future, Sensor Tower will release a report on live streaming applications to further explore the changes and trends in the field of mobile live streaming, as well as the impact of the epidemic on application manufacturers and user behavior.
