It took only 5 months for the app to achieve this new milestone after reaching 1.5 billion downloads. In the first quarter of this year, Douyin and its overseas version TikTok received a total of 315 million downloads on the global App Store and Google Play, making it the most downloaded mobile application in the world. Although Douyin and its overseas version TikTok are already very popular around the world and have been acquiring new users, the global outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in the first quarter of this year has prompted people to shop, work and entertain through mobile devices, and Douyin and its overseas version have also seen a peak in downloads. India is the largest market for the app, with 611 million downloads to date, accounting for 30.3% of the global total. The Chinese iOS market contributed 196 million downloads, accounting for 9.7% of the global total. The US market ranked third, contributing 165 million downloads, accounting for 8.2%. In terms of platforms, downloads from Google Play exceeded 1.5 billion, accounting for 75.5%, while the App Store contributed 495 million downloads, accounting for 24.5%. In-app purchases are growing exponentially So far, the in-app purchase revenue of Douyin and TikTok has reached 456 million U.S. dollars. When the app reached the milestone of 1.5 billion downloads, its total in-app purchase revenue was 175 million U.S. dollars, which means that the revenue has increased by 1.5 times in the past five months. Chinese iOS users contributed $331 million, accounting for 72.3% of the total in-app purchase revenue. American users ranked second, contributing $86.5 million, accounting for 19%. British users ranked third, contributing $9 million, accounting for 2%. In terms of platforms, revenue from the App Store reached $435 million, while Google Play was only $21.4 million. Douyin and its overseas version TikTok entered an accelerated growth channel in 2019, but in the first quarter of 2020, with the global spread of the epidemic, their popularity reached an unprecedented level, as reflected in the sharp increase in downloads, activity, and in-app purchase revenue.
