Common Sense: 47% of American parents believe their children are "addicted" to mobile devices

Common Sense and SurveyMonkey conducted a survey of American parents on YouTube and mobile device addiction. The results showed:

62% of parents said their children have seen inappropriate videos on YouTube;

The vast majority of parents believe it is their own responsibility to prevent their children from seeing inappropriate videos (81%), while only 10% believe it is YouTube’s responsibility;

37% of parents do not use YouTube's parental controls, and 22% are unaware of the feature.

In terms of mobile device addiction, 47% of parents believe their children are "addicted" to mobile devices, while only 32% of parents describe themselves in this way;

Half of parents are at least somewhat concerned that their children’s mobile device use will have a negative impact on their mental health (50%), with 18% being very concerned.

Most parents believe it is their responsibility to limit the time children spend using mobile devices (89%).

The purpose of this survey is to understand parents' attitudes towards children's use of YouTube and mobile devices. The results show that parents' concerns about their children's addiction to technology are very real. However, most parents believe that it is their responsibility to supervise their children. It would be a good thing if technology companies can establish long-term cooperation with parents, such as YouTube's parental control function.
