According to a new Pew survey, few users rely on the Internet and social media for election information, which may be what social media experts have imagined in the past. When the technology media circle called the 2012 presidential election a social media election, the survey found that few Americans relied on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to obtain election information. 25% of people said they learned about the election through the Internet. This proportion has not changed from 2008, when 24% of people said they obtained election information from the Internet. Cable news and local TV news are the main channels for obtaining campaign information. When it comes to sources of information on the Internet, 6% of respondents said they learned about the election through Facebook, followed by YouTube (3%) and Twitter (2%). The reason why social networks have not yet become the mainstream way to obtain election information may be because young people are not engaged in election information. |
