So what is pulmonary embolism? Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a general term for a group of diseases or clinical syndromes that cause pulmonary circulation and right heart dysfunction due to endogenous or exogenous emboli blocking the main trunk of the pulmonary artery or its branches, including pulmonary thromboembolism, fat embolism, amniotic fluid embolism, air embolism, tumor embolism, etc. Pulmonary thromboembolism is the most common type of pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the main source of thrombus causing pulmonary thromboembolism. Acute pulmonary embolism is a relatively dangerous disease and one of the three most common fatal cardiovascular diseases. It has a high incidence rate, and the disease is severe and has a high mortality rate. Early treatment can relieve symptoms and save lives.
