Essential for parents | The development of vision in infants and young children

Within the first year after an infant or child is born, the eyes go through a process of development from blurred vision, black and white, color, and slowly to clarity.

A 2-year-old child has a visual acuity of about 0.2-0.4 and good hand-eye coordination.

For children aged 2-3, the visual acuity can reach about 0.4-0.6;

3-4 years old, visual acuity is about 0.6-0.8;

The visual acuity of 4-6 years old is about 0.8-1.0 and above.

Parents need to help their babies promote vision development

1. Adjust the baby's crib: Before the baby is six months old, his vision is blurred. Parents can adjust the baby's crib to allow the baby to adapt to light from different directions.

2. Choose soft music bells: Place music bells around the crib (be sure to choose music bells with soft sounds to avoid scaring the baby) to attract the baby's attention to explore the location of the sound.

3. Bright ornaments: Select colorful small toys (note that the patterns should be large blocks of color, not patterns with delicate lines) and hang them about 30 cm in front of the baby's eyes and shake them. This can cultivate the baby's eye coordination and focusing ability.

4. Ball rolling game: Place the ball about 20 cm away from the baby for the baby to see, then slowly roll it, allowing the baby's eyes to move with the ball, to test the eye's attention and practice the eye's tracking ability.
