Ji Jiafu, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference: 40 years of clinical oncology in China, we look at the disease from a new perspective

Data from the "World Cancer Report 2020" released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer showed that in 2020, there were approximately 4.57 million new cases of cancer in China, accounting for 23.7% of the world's total, and approximately 3 million people died from cancer.

The "Healthy China 2030" Plan sets the goal of achieving chronic disease health management for the entire population and throughout the life cycle by 2030, and increasing the overall five-year cancer survival rate by 15%.

Faced with the severe situation of cancer prevention and control, how can we establish a cancer early screening and diagnosis system that suits China's national conditions, and how can we establish a scientific prevention and control model for specific and high-incidence cancers? After more than 40 years of development, what experience has China's clinical oncology accumulated in terms of cognition and concepts?

1. China is a country with a high incidence of gastric cancer. Every year, there are approximately 400,000 new gastric cancer patients and 290,000 deaths from gastric cancer. Taking gastric cancer as an example, how does my country's current anti-cancer situation compare with the international level?

2. Based on your experience in clinical oncology, can you talk about the biggest advances and changes in the development of oncology in my country in terms of technology and cognition?

3. Many people say that cancer treatment is an art of life. The core of helping patients is two-fold: prolonging life and improving the quality of life. As a medical worker who has been engaged in clinical practice for nearly 40 years, what do you think a good doctor should be like in the eyes of patients?
