"I was infected with Omicron in South Africa": There are 3 symptoms!

The impact of the Omicron strain on South Africa is expanding. Mr. Hao from Nantong, Jiangsu, China, did not expect that he would be infected with the Omicron strain again after being infected with the new coronavirus before.

Mr. Hao left Nantong, Jiangsu Province in April this year and was assigned to Johannesburg. He originally planned to work in South Africa for half a year. In June this year, he was infected with the new coronavirus and began to isolate at home. Under the guidance of a doctor, he took medicine for treatment and his health gradually improved.

As he had been infected with the novel coronavirus, Mr. Hao's wife was very concerned about his health. At the end of November, when Mr. Hao and his wife were video chatting, his wife found that his health was not very good. So Mr. Hao went to a local hospital for a nucleic acid test.

The doctor told him that the test result was positive for the new coronavirus, and this time the infection was the Omicron strain. After learning the news, Mr. Hao posted on WeChat Moments on December 1, saying, "I have survived the disaster again."

According to his recollection, he went out to buy groceries and met with guests in a local cafe on November 28 and 29 respectively. It was not clear when he was infected.

After being infected with the Omicron strain, Mr. Hao said he had symptoms such as thirst, dry cough, and low-grade fever. Currently, he lives alone in the apartment and does not live with others.

"I felt very thirsty and my lungs felt very dry. I could drink three liters of water in two hours and still felt thirsty. I drank a lot of water before going to bed, but I didn't go to the toilet the next morning, so I don't know where the water went." Mr. Hao said, "The symptoms of this disease are dry cough, involuntary coughing, and lungs that feel like they are on fire. In addition, there is a low-grade fever."

Mr. Hao said that the doctor prescribed him medicine, and he had to go to the hospital to get the medicine and isolate himself at home for treatment. He wanted to wait for the nucleic acid test to be negative and return home to reunite with his family as soon as possible.

According to reports, data released by the South African National Institute for Communicable Diseases showed that as of the evening of December 2, local time, South Africa had more than 11,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, a significant increase compared to the more than 8,500 new cases the previous day. South African health officials said that the Omicron strain has basically dominated the spread of the new coronavirus in South Africa and is driving a sharp increase in the number of infected cases.
