Women who sleep less than 6 hours a night are more likely to have irregular menstruation and heavy bleeding

It is normal for women to have menstruation every month. Many women may not know that the amount of bleeding during each menstrual period is within a certain range. Only when it is within a certain range can the body be healthy. However, many women have a very heavy bleeding during menstruation, just like a hemorrhage. Such women will appear very pale and tired. Women with more serious conditions may also suffer from hemorrhagic shock.

Under normal circumstances, when a woman has her period, her blood loss should be around 50-80 ml, and the amount of blood loss during this process is a process of changing from a small amount to a large amount and then to a small amount. If a woman's daily bleeding during her menstrual period exceeds 80 ml, it means that the bleeding is excessive, indicating that the woman's body has the following problems:

1. Endocrine regulation disorder

Endocrine disorders are a very common disease in women. Under the premise of not having uterine diseases, it is a functional disorder of uterine bleeding caused by menorrhagia. Most women with endocrine disorders will have problems such as long menstrual periods, excessive daily bleeding or irregular menstruation.

Gynecological diseases

When women suffer from some gynecological diseases, their menstrual periods may become irregular and they may easily suffer from excessive bleeding. The most common gynecological diseases that may cause excessive bleeding in women are uterine fibroids, endometriosis, etc. When women notice that they have excessive menstrual bleeding, they must go to the hospital for a gynecological examination and treatment as soon as possible.

Intrauterine device

Many young women do not want children in the early stages of marriage, so they use intrauterine devices for contraception. If there is a problem with the placement or method of the intrauterine device, it will cause abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, and heavy menstrual bleeding. When such problems occur, you must go to the hospital in time to remove the intrauterine device, otherwise it will cause greater harm to the female body.

There is a problem with the blood

Although menstrual bleeding in women is a relatively special situation, the blood flowing out of the body is also affected by coagulation factors. When there is a problem with the body's coagulation function, problems such as continuous bleeding and excessive menstrual blood flow will occur.

Women must pay more attention to their health in their daily lives, otherwise there will be many gynecological diseases. They must use the correct contraceptive method at ordinary times, otherwise it will have a great impact on their menstrual period. At the same time, they must pay attention to their personal hygiene, because during the menstrual period, the uterus of women is open and they are easily attacked by some viruses, which will cause problems with the body's immune system.

Women who sleep less than 6 hours a night are more likely to have irregular menstruation and heavy bleeding

According to a new study published in the Journal of Sleep Research, menstruating women who sleep less than six hours a night tend to have heavier bleeding and more irregular periods.

Women are 40% more likely to suffer from insomnia than men. Yet, the mainstay of treatment rarely considers menstrual health. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is endorsed by the American College of Physicians as a first-line treatment for insomnia. While this behavioral therapy is effective for people with chronic pain and depression, it has not been tested for monthly menstrual symptoms.

The study found that compared with healthy sleepers with a sleep duration of 7 to 9 hours, those who slept an average of less than 6 hours per night were 44% more likely to experience menstrual irregularities and 70% more likely to experience heavy menstrual bleeding.

Many people understand the importance of a good night's sleep, but even the myriad new treatments, therapies, and tracking apps can daunt women. The research team analyzed survey data from 574 menstruating women between the ages of 24 and 40, including their menstrual bleeding and regularity, sleep, and their daytime functioning. The survey data found that those who experienced heavy bleeding or irregular periods were more likely to suffer from short sleep duration and quality, fatigue, stress, and depression.

One might ask: which came first, the chicken or the egg? Women’s sleep can be disrupted when they experience mood swings, cramping, irritability, and fatigue before or during their period. These symptoms are hallmarks of premenstrual syndrome (broadly known as PMS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which can lead to severe depression or anxiety before a period.

On the other hand, lack of sleep itself can lead to more severe pain, which can exacerbate PMS and PMDD symptoms. Women are also more likely to feel anxious when they are sleep deprived, making it harder to fall asleep.

The researchers believe that this discovery could help more women address issues that plague them every day. By taking a more holistic mind-body model to treat these complaints, doctors could improve the issues that many women face every month, thereby improving their quality of life and overall health.
