Chronic pharyngitis recurs repeatedly? The root of the disease may not be in the throat!

I wonder if you have ever experienced this: when you open your eyes in the morning, you feel uncomfortable in your throat, as if something is blocking it, but you can't cough it out, and you don't have symptoms such as fever, cold, or cough. What is the reason for this?

At this point, many people should remember an advertisement slogan: "Can't cough, can't swallow, and feel nauseous and retching when brushing teeth in the morning, these are symptoms of chronic pharyngitis!"

Is this really the case?

1

With these discomforts

It may be chronic pharyngitis.

Pharyngitis refers to the inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and submucosal tissue, which is often part of an upper respiratory tract infection. It can be divided into acute pharyngitis and chronic pharyngitis.

①Acute pharyngitis

The onset is acute, with dryness and burning in the throat at the beginning; the pain in the throat when swallowing saliva is more obvious than when eating; sometimes it is accompanied by fever, headache, loss of appetite and sore limbs; if it is left unchecked and affects the throat, it may be accompanied by hoarseness and cough.

②Chronic pharyngitis

The incidence rate is high, the symptoms are recurrent, and they are easily ignored. The main symptoms are discomfort and foreign body sensation in the throat; dryness, itching, swelling and burning pain in the throat; and frequent throat clearing sounds; a few patients may have a strong odor in the mouth, or bad breath, and dry stools.

If you fail to take acute pharyngitis seriously and fail to go to the hospital for treatment in time, thus missing the best treatment time, it will turn into chronic pharyngitis. According to clinical data, the incidence of chronic pharyngitis in throat diseases reaches 30-50%.

1. Chronic pharyngitis is prevalent, and 4 reasons cannot be ignored

① Excessive smoking and drinking

Clinical studies have shown that long-term smoking and excessive drinking are the most common causes of chronic pharyngitis.

On the one hand, tobacco and alcohol can directly stimulate the pharyngeal mucosa, causing damage to it, and even increase the secretions of the pharyngeal mucosa and cause congestion. On the other hand, long-term smoking and excessive drinking can reduce the body's immunity, and the pharynx is in a state of long-term congestion due to immune system dysfunction, thus causing chronic pharyngitis.

②Excessive use of the voice

People who overuse their voices for a long time are prone to chronic pharyngitis, such as hosts, singers, teachers, etc. Due to their occupational reasons, they overuse their voices, which damages the pharyngeal mucosa and causes chronic pharyngitis.

③ Bad living habits

Staying up late or eating spicy food frequently can easily irritate and congest the pharyngeal mucosa, leading to a decrease in resistance and a disorder of nasopharyngeal bacteria. Many highly pathogenic bacteria take the opportunity to invade the nasopharynx and throat, easily causing chronic throat inflammation.

④ Living environment

The air quality is poor, there are more harmful dust particles floating in the air, and there are many cars in the city. The exhaust gas emitted by cars has adverse effects on people's throats.

2

Pharyngitis is not just a throat problem

Chronic pharyngitis is a common disease that is not difficult to diagnose, but it is always difficult to cure. This is largely due to the complexity of the cause!

From the perspective of medical anatomy, the pharynx belongs to the category of "oropharynx". It is connected to the nasopharynx upwards, to the trachea and esophagus downwards through the laryngopharynx, and to the oral cavity forwards, exposed to the air. It is like a crossroads, where gases, liquids, and food from all directions must pass through.

Therefore, no matter which route goes wrong, it may cause chronic inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa.

① When inflammation occurs in organs adjacent to the pharynx, the pharynx will be affected, thus causing chronic pharyngitis. For example: rhinitis, asthma, otitis media, toothache, chronic tonsillitis, bronchitis, etc.

② Laryngeal diseases: Patients with vocal cord polyps or vocal cord nodules may experience obvious discomfort in the pharynx after conservative treatment or surgical treatment, causing pharyngitis.

③ Gastroesophageal diseases: mainly reflux pharyngitis. When gastric acid refluxes into the throat, it will cause irritation and damage to the throat, leading to chronic inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and submucosal membrane.

Such patients often do not have obvious symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn, and go to the hospital for treatment mainly with symptoms such as foreign body sensation, long-term sore throat, cough, hoarseness, and difficulty breathing.

④ Sleep apnea syndrome: commonly known as snoring, frequent mouth breathing at night can cause dry throat and irritation of the pharyngeal mucosa.

So many seemingly unrelated factors may actually be the "culprit" of pharyngitis. Therefore, when your throat is uncomfortable, you must seek medical attention in time, find out the cause, and treat it symptomatically.

3

Chronic pharyngitis may also be caused by being too "weak"

In traditional Chinese medicine, chronic pharyngitis is called laryngeal paralysis, which may be caused by "deficiency". For example, lung and kidney yin deficiency can lead to the rise of virtual fire, causing the throat to be malnourished; it may also be spleen deficiency, leading to abnormal transportation and destruction of the balance of body fluid metabolism. Therefore, when we regulate "deficiency" symptoms, we are actually preventing chronic pharyngitis.

1Lung and Kidney Yin Deficiency

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, a Yin deficiency constitution will generate internal heat, and the weaker the Yin, the stronger the internal fire. At this time, the false fire rises, the throat is malnourished, and pharyngitis is prone to occur.

[Symptom identification] In addition to dry, swollen and painful throat, dry and itchy cough, it is often accompanied by dry mouth, dry skin, and even a feeling of fever in the afternoon, excessive sweating after sleeping, soreness and weakness in the waist and knees, insomnia, tinnitus and dizziness, etc.

When the condition improves, the focus is on nourishing yin and moistening dryness, and tonifying the kidneys and moistening the lungs.

Yin nourishing soup

Preparation: 3g Scrophularia, 3g Ophiopogon, 6g Rehmannia, 3g Moutan, 3g White Peony, 3g Licorice, 3g Fritillaria, 3g Mint, boil them together in water and drink.

Radix Rehmanniae nourishes the kidneys, nourishes yin and clears away heat; Radix Scrophulariae helps Radix Rehmanniae to nourish yin, clear away internal heat and resolve heat toxins; Radix Ophiopogonis nourishes yin and moistens the lungs; Radix Paeoniae Alba restrains yin and softens the liver; Cortex Moutan clears heat and cools the blood; Fritillaria thunbergii moistens the lungs and resolves phlegm; Peppermint dispels evil and relieves sore throat; Licorice detoxifies and relieves sore throat, and harmonizes all the medicines. This tea can nourish yin and clear the lungs, relieve sore throat and resolve stagnation.
2. Spleen deficiency "Suwen·Yin Yang Lei Lun" said: "Dry throat and pharynx are caused by spleen disease."

"The spleen is the source of phlegm." When the spleen is deficient, the ability to digest, absorb and transport will be weakened, and the body fluid produced will be reduced; at the same time, the transport and transformation will not be sufficient, and the ability to raise and transport the body fluid will be reduced. There is not enough energy to transport the body fluid to the throat, and symptoms such as dry mouth, dry and painful throat, and foreign body sensation will appear. When water and dampness are retained in the body, they will condense into phlegm.

[Associated symptoms] In addition to sore throat, there may also be sallow complexion, fatigue, weakness in the limbs, drowsiness, loss of appetite, and abdominal distension after eating a little.

Treatment principles: tonify the middle and replenish qi, raise the clearness and relieve the throat.

Buzhong Yiqi Decoction

Ingredients: Astragalus, roasted licorice, ginseng, angelica, tangerine peel, Cimicifuga, Bupleurum, and Atractylodes.
Astragalus, licorice, ginseng, and Atractylodes are all medicinal herbs that strengthen the spleen and replenish qi. Angelica sinensis replenishes blood, tangerine peel strengthens the spleen and eliminates dampness, and Cimicifuga and Bupleurum are wind-removing herbs among them, as well as yang-raising herbs.
This is a traditional prescription, and the specific amount of grams should be followed by the doctor. In addition, you can also eat the following "red bean yam powder" on a daily basis:

Red bean and yam powder

formula:

Yam: Strengthens the spleen and replenishes the body, nourishes the essence and strengthens the kidneys

Red beans: promote blood circulation, replenish blood, strengthen the spleen and remove dampness, promote diuresis and reduce swelling

Job's tears: promote diuresis and eliminate dampness, strengthen the spleen and stomach, clear lung heat, and stop diarrhea

Gorgon Fruit: "Ginseng in Water", nourishes the kidney and strengthens the essence, replenishes the spleen and stops diarrhea, removes dampness and stops leukorrhea

Chestnut: Strengthens the spleen and stomach, nourishes the kidneys and activates blood circulation, strengthens the muscles and bones

Japonica rice: replenishes qi, promotes urination, relieves thirst, and nourishes the stomach and intestines

Jujube: replenishes qi, strengthens the spleen and nourishes blood, calms the mind and soothes nerves

Millet: nourishes the spleen and kidneys, harmonizes the stomach and intestines, promotes urination, and treats diarrhea

These eight ingredients are scientifically combined, ground into powder using ancient processing techniques, and can harmonize the spleen and stomach in multiple ways to strengthen the physical body.

Three steps to protect your throat

Although pharyngitis does not have the risk of cancer, chronic pharyngitis that is not cured for a long time will cause repeated damage and repair of the throat mucosa, increasing the risk of pharyngeal cancer. Therefore, pharyngitis needs to be taken seriously.

1. Drink more warm water

Although water does not have the function of "dissolving" phlegm, it can dilute phlegm. The thicker the phlegm, the harder it is to cough out. Drinking more water can dilute the secretions in the throat, making it easier to cough out. In addition, long-term coughing can cause swelling and pain in the throat, and drinking water can also help relieve this pain.

Note: Warm boiled water at around 35 degrees is most suitable.

2. Supplement nutrients

When the body lacks vitamin A, the mucosal epithelium of the throat will degenerate. Appropriate supplementation can help maintain the integrity of the epithelial cell morphology and healthy functions.

In your daily life, you can eat more foods rich in vitamin A, such as apples, bananas, purslane, cabbage, mustard greens, pumpkin, pea sprouts, carrots, mung beans, chicken, eggs, etc.

You can also eat more dark green or red and yellow vegetables and fruits, such as mangoes, carrots, broccoli, etc. The carotene in them can be converted into vitamin A in the body as a supplement.

3. Tea for chronic pharyngitis

Recipe: 15 grams of honeysuckle, 15 grams of nasturtium, and 15 grams of dendrobium. Soak in boiling water. It is best to boil for 3-5 minutes first, and then add boiling water to drink the tea.

[Effects] Honeysuckle clears heat and detoxifies, golden lotus detoxifies and relieves sore throat, and dendrobium nourishes yin and relieves sore throat. This tea substitute has the effects of clearing heat, nourishing yin, and relieving sore throat.

[Note] This tea substitute has a cold taste. People with weak spleen and stomach should reduce the dosage or add some ginger soup.
