Can a person with heart disease have a baby?

Can I get pregnant if I have congenital heart disease? If the patient has grade 1 or grade 2 heart failure, the risk of pregnancy is relatively small, but for patients with grade 3 or above heart failure, pregnancy can affect their health and even their life. Therefore, whether patients with congenital heart disease can have children depends on the degree of heart function:

For patients with grade I and II heart failure, the risk factor for having children is not great;

Patients with grade III heart failure are not allowed to get pregnant under normal circumstances;

If the patient has grade 4 heart failure, she must not get pregnant. If she gets pregnant, she should terminate the pregnancy immediately. Because the total blood circulation volume of pregnant women increases by more than 30%, and the enlarged uterus during pregnancy causes the diaphragm to rise, the heart moves to the upper left, affecting blood flow back and increasing heart pressure. During childbirth, the uterus contracts, the pregnant woman exerts force, and her heart rate is very fast. After the baby is born, the abdominal pressure suddenly decreases, and the embryo's blood circulation stops, which increases the weight of the pregnant mother's blood returning to the heart. The heart pressure suddenly increases, and heart failure is easy to occur.

What is congenital heart disease?

What is congenital heart disease? During the embryonic development stage (2-3 months in the early pregnancy), some anatomical abnormalities are caused by obstruction of the heart and large blood vessels, or the heart's safety channels that should be closed automatically after birth cannot be closed (normal in the fetus), which is called congenital heart disease.

Most congenital heart diseases can be detected before delivery, and the subsequent recovery level will vary depending on the different conditions of the congenital heart disease. There are many types of congenital heart disease with varying degrees of complexity. Some mild and uncomplicated congenital heart disease can be eradicated through a single operation, while some complex ones may require several operations. In addition, the recovery from surgery is also related to one's physical condition. Generally, you should go to the hospital for regular physical examinations.
