Fever and cough self-assessment method How to judge whether fever and cough are Wuhan pneumonia

We all know that Wuhan pneumonia, also known as the new coronavirus, has become the most serious epidemic so far. It first broke out in Wuhan, and as time goes by, people in many places have been infected. So how do you tell if a fever and cough is Wuhan pneumonia? Let's take a closer look!

Fever and cough self-assessment method

2019-Novel Coronavirus is currently mainly transmitted through respiratory droplets, such as coughing and sneezing, but it can also be transmitted through close contact. If you have symptoms such as fever and cough during this season, if you do not pay attention, not only may your condition worsen, but you may also spread it to your family. If you have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, etc., it is recommended to follow the following process to self-evaluate and decide whether to go to the hospital again:

Assessment of the condition:

1. The body temperature does not exceed 38°C, and there are no obvious symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing;

2. Aged under 60 or over 5 years old;

3. Not for pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases or obese people.

If you are in the above situation, it is recommended that you rest and observe at home first. While at home, please drink plenty of water and take some cold medicine to relieve symptoms. At the same time, take measures such as wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and ventilating the room frequently to protect yourself and your family.

If you have any of the following conditions, it is recommended to see a doctor immediately:

1. The condition does not improve after 1-2 days of observation and rest at home;

2. Those who have had close contact with patients with fever or cough symptoms recently, or have been to crowded places such as farmers' markets, or have a history of contact with wild animals;

3. The elderly, pregnant women, obese people, and people with underlying diseases such as chronic lung disease, cardiovascular disease, liver, kidney and those with weakened immune function.

On the way to the hospital, you should wear a mask, pay attention to coughing etiquette and respiratory hygiene, and do not cover your mouth and nose with your hands when coughing or sneezing, but use a tissue or elbow to cover it. 2019-Novel Coronavirus is currently mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract, such as droplets such as coughing and sneezing, but it can also be transmitted through close contact. If you have symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, etc., it is recommended to self-evaluate according to the following process to decide whether to go to the hospital again.

What are the symptoms of novel coronavirus infection?

The main symptom of onset is fever.

From the clinical manifestations, the onset of novel coronavirus pneumonia is mainly characterized by fever, which may be accompanied by mild dry cough, fatigue, dyspnea, diarrhea and other symptoms. Other symptoms such as runny nose and sputum are rare. Half of the patients developed dyspnea after one week, and severe cases rapidly progressed to acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock, difficult-to-correct metabolic acidosis and coagulation dysfunction. Some patients had mild onset symptoms, without clinical symptoms such as fever, and recovered after one week. Most patients had a good prognosis, while a few were in critical condition or even died.

In the early stage, imaging manifestations show multiple small patchy shadows and interstitial changes, which are more obvious in the outer lung zone. Then it develops into multiple ground-glass shadows and infiltration shadows in both lungs. In severe cases, pulmonary consolidation may occur, and pleural effusion is rare.

In addition to imaging manifestations, patients may also have normal or decreased total peripheral blood leukocyte counts and decreased lymphocyte counts in the early stages of the disease. Some patients may have elevated liver enzymes, myoenzymes, and myoglobin. Most patients have elevated C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and normal procalcitonin. In severe cases, DD dimers are elevated and lymphocytes progressively decrease.

The difference between the new coronavirus and the common cold

Early patients with pneumonia infected with the new coronavirus experience symptoms such as headache, nasal congestion, sneezing, and coughing. The common cold and influenza also have similar symptoms, but there are actually clear differences between them.

Most patients with common colds have mild symptoms and generally do not cause pneumonia; influenza can cause high fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain, etc., although it can also cause pneumonia, but it is not common; the symptoms of pneumonia patients infected with the new coronavirus are mainly fever, fatigue, and dry cough. Some patients do not have fever symptoms, but may experience chest tightness and difficulty breathing. The incubation period of the new coronavirus pneumonia is about 7 days on average, with the shortest being 2 to 3 days and the longest being 10 to 12 days.
