How to relieve dizziness caused by cervical spondylosis? How to adjust the pain caused by cervical spondylosis by yourself?

Cervical spondylosis is a disease that many people have. The most common symptom is neck pain. Cervical spondylosis can also cause headaches, dizziness, numbness in the hands and other symptoms. You can try to relieve these symptoms yourself to make yourself more comfortable.

How to relieve dizziness caused by cervical spondylosis

There are generally two situations in which dizziness is caused by cervical spondylosis.

The first type is dizziness when changing body positions. For example, you will feel dizzy when you stand up, get out of bed, turn over, or look back, but not when you are still. This may be due to the dislocation of the first cervical vertebra. Because the vertebral artery that supplies blood to the brain has a bend at the first cervical vertebra, when the first cervical vertebra is dislocated, it is easy to compress the blood vessels, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain and causing dizziness.

To confirm whether this joint is dislocated, you can take an X-ray with open mouth. There is no need to worry too much about this dislocation. It is common for people who sleep on their side and have bad postures, and the dislocation can be adjusted back quickly with bone-setting techniques.

The second type is that you feel dizzy at all times without any regularity. You may feel dizzy when you are under a lot of stress or are nervous. Sometimes, the dizziness will be aggravated by leaning back.

This may be due to excessive tension in the suboccipital muscles and a smaller atlanto-occipital space, which compresses the blood vessels and causes dizziness.

This dizziness may require several treatments, which is common among busy working people. This has been very common in hospitals in recent years. As long as the pressure on the suboccipital muscles is relieved, the dizziness will go away automatically.

If you experience dizziness, you still need to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment, as it is difficult to recover on your own.

How to adjust the pain of cervical spondylosis by yourself

1. Acute pain: Acute pain is caused by many reasons, such as stiff neck and twisted neck. The most important thing at this time is to rest, not massage. In the acute phase, there will be some inflammatory reactions, and the local area will be red, swollen, hot and painful. At this time, if you massage and apply hot compress, the pain will be aggravated. So the best way at this time is to rest: keep your neck in a comfortable position or wear a neck brace to support your neck. But you can't wear a neck brace and rest all the time, which will weaken the cervical muscles!

2. Chronic muscle pain: Chronic pain often lasts for a week or even several months. At this time, there may be muscle adhesion and shortening, joint stiffness, and decreased ability of nerves to control muscles. Therefore, to solve chronic neck pain, you need to solve muscle and joint problems. Pain can be relieved by rest and hot compresses. Applying plasters or massage can only relieve pain and cannot fundamentally solve the pain. There are many reasons why chronic pain occurs: such as poor posture, playing with mobile phones and computers for a long time, weak muscle endurance, etc. If you only massage, hot compress, and rest, do you think you can solve the problems of poor posture and muscle strength? Obviously not, then you should do some active rehabilitation training to help you solve the root cause!

Sternocleidomastoid stretch: This muscle is very easy to tense, especially in people with chronic neck pain. Stretching the left side is to extend the neck backward, flex the neck laterally on the right side, and rotate the neck on the left side. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds. Switch to the other side.

Upper trapezius muscle stretch: This muscle is also prone to tension and pain. To stretch the left side, lower your head, flex your neck to the right, and rotate your neck to the left. Do this for 30 seconds and then switch positions.

Scalene muscle stretch: If the scalene muscles are easily tense, it may sometimes cause numbness in the hands. If you have numbness in your hands, you can do this stretch. To stretch the left side, bend your neck to the right and sink your left shoulder. Hold for 30 seconds.

After stretching the tense muscles, the muscles are relaxed, but if you do not strengthen the weak muscles, these muscles will become tense again due to bad posture, then you should exercise the intrinsic stabilizing muscles in your neck.

Chin tuck exercise: Sit up straight and tuck your chin in, but be careful not to cause tension in the sternocleidomastoid muscle! You will feel tired inside your neck. Hold for 10 seconds and do 10 sets.

Resistance training: You can buy an elastic band to increase resistance in all directions of the head, hold statically for 10 seconds, 5 sets.

Sitting posture correction: If you don’t change your wrong posture and habits (playing with your phone, computer, or working at a desk for a long time), no matter how much massage or training you do, it will be useless. You need to train your brain! Let your brain know what is the correct posture and what is the wrong posture! Let the correct posture gradually become your habit!

How to quickly relieve cervical pain

1. Pain caused by chronic strain of neck muscles. This kind of pain is mostly soreness and swelling. At this time, hot compress, massage and rest are most effective, which can remove metabolites such as lactic acid accumulated in the muscles.

2. Pain caused by acute injury to the neck muscles. For example, synovial incarceration and small joint disorder. This kind of pain is mostly swelling and muscle spasm. At this time, manual reduction and local cold compress are most effective. Manual reduction helps loosen the incarcerated synovium and restore small joints. Cold compress can relieve local edema. At this time, hot compress will increase blood vessel permeability and accelerate edema, so many people feel more pain the more they apply.

3. Pain caused by cervical radiculopathy. For example, if the cervical disc herniation compresses the nerve root, this pain is usually tingling, electric-like pain, or burning pain. At this time, traction is most effective. Traction can quickly increase the intervertebral space and intervertebral foramen, and relieve the compressed nerve root.

4. Headache caused by vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis. For example, headache, dizziness, and tinnitus caused by insufficient blood supply to the vertebral artery. This kind of pain is mostly dull and empty. At this time, bed rest is the most effective. It can quickly relieve the insufficient blood supply to the vertebral basilar artery.
