What is the reason for the peanuts to turn green? How to tell if the peanuts are ripe?

In the peanut season that is about to be harvested, if your peanuts show signs of "turning green", it will have little effect on increasing the yield. If there are no symptoms of kernel sprouting, you can leave them and dig them up when the leaves fall. But if you find that the kernels have sprouted, it will cause a reduction in yield, so you should just pull them out and dig them up. This is the best way to treat peanuts.

What is the reason for peanuts turning green?

First, after spraying the pesticide to control the growth, if there is sufficient rain, the peanuts will grow new leaves. This is what we ordinary people often say: "I want to control the growth at one time, but I can't control it due to weather reasons." This will not have a big impact on the yield of peanuts. You should spray foliar fertilizer and add the pesticide to control the growth in time. It can be seen that when spraying the pesticide to control the growth of peanuts, it is better to spray it twice.

The second situation is the problem with our peanut seeds. Generally, such a situation can be found in a peanut field! There are not too many plants with "green" peanuts, and its performance is also more prominent. The plants grow well, and the leaves are green! And they bloom but do not bear fruit or produce a few peanuts. Such peanuts should be a problem with seeds. The impact on yield is relatively large, so when peeling peanut seeds, try to pick out peanut seeds with less skin and mold spots.

The third situation is what we ordinary people call the situation of peanuts growing too fast. This is because when fertilizing peanuts, nitrogen fertilizer is heavily applied, resulting in less absorption of potassium fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer, which leads to the situation of "reverse greening". The solution is to choose potassium sulfate compound fertilizer or peanut-specific compound fertilizer when applying topdressing to peanuts. In addition, during the pod-setting and fruit-filling period of peanuts, medium and trace element fertilizers should be supplemented by foliar spraying, and fungicides can also be added to protect the leaves. In this way, the fullness of the peanut seeds and the yield can be effectively promoted.

How to tell if peanuts are ripe

To see if the peanuts planted in the field are mature, first look at the stems and leaves of the peanuts. When they are about to mature, the stems and leaves will no longer grow, the leaves on the top will start to turn yellow, and the old leaves at the bottom will fall off. On the other hand, look at the peanut shells and peanut kernels. Pull a few peanuts around the plot. If the peanut shells look hard and plump with clear lines, they are almost ripe. Also peel a few and see if the kernels are plump and not so juicy, then they are ripe. If the peanut kernels are tender and small and taste sweet, then they are not ripe. Generally speaking, it is impossible for all peanuts on a plant to mature at the same time. Only when more than 80% of them are ripe can they be harvested.

Can you save seeds from peanuts?

You can definitely save seeds for peanuts. We in the countryside save seeds for peanuts. If you have to buy seeds every time you plant, it will increase the planting cost. You should know that peanut seeds are relatively expensive. However, according to scientific planting methods, continuous self-save may lead to variety degeneration and reduce peanut production. But this has little impact on ordinary farmers.
