How long does it take for bleeding to occur after taking the medicine?

Medical abortion is an optional abortion method for us ladies in the early stages of pregnancy. Although nowadays many women prefer painless abortion surgery, there is no doubt that medical abortion is still a very good choice. So, how long will it take for bleeding to occur after taking the medicine? How many days of bleeding is normal for a woman after a medical abortion?

For medical abortion, usually you take mifepristone within the first 2 days, and miso on the 3rd day. During the period of taking miso, there is generally no bleeding, but a very small number of people may experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding on the second day of taking miso. In this case, miso must be taken on the third day. Generally, you may experience lower abdominal pain and bleeding 2 hours after taking miso. Under normal circumstances, the fetal sac may be expelled within 2 to 6 hours after taking miso.

Generally speaking, the average number of bleeding days after the gestational sac is expelled by medical abortion is 18 days. If many people still bleed after 18 days, it may be that the decidua is not completely peeled off, affecting uterine contraction and blood circulation; or the gestational sac is not discharged in full, resulting in incomplete abortion; in a very small number of patients, it is caused by infection after medical abortion surgery and endometrial inflammation. If there is residual uterine cleaning surgery, the vaginal bleeding time will be prolonged, thereby increasing the chance of infection. If the infection causes fallopian tube blockage, it will affect pregnancy.

Medical abortion is available in the early stages of pregnancy (within 49 days from the first day of the expected date of delivery). Before performing medical abortion, you must do a B-ultrasound examination. First, you must rule out the possibility of ectopic pregnancy; secondly, you must accurately measure the size of the gestational sac. If the gestational sac exceeds 2.3 cm, it is not suitable for medical abortion.
