Uncaria rhynchophylla and Gardenia jasminoides can clear away heat, detoxify and soothe the liver; they can relieve the internal fire of the liver; coix seed and scutellaria baicalensis can invigorate the spleen and harmonize the stomach, and prevent wood diseases and damp phlegm caused by earth; chuanxiong, red peony root and notopterygium invigorate qi, nourish blood and soften the liver; julibrissin bark and polyphylla soothe the nerves, aid sleep and stabilize the mind; coix seed and rehmannia root can nourish yin, soothe the heart and relieve restlessness; raw dragon bone and oyster shell can soothe the liver and calm shock. The combination of these medicines can achieve the goal of improving sleep quality.

If there are symptoms of sexual dysfunction secondary to insomnia, the following methods can be used for drug interaction: add Gardenia jasminoides and Lophatherum gracile for irritability, restlessness and anger; add Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae and Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae for night sweats; add mulberry leaves and white chrysanthemum for dizziness and headache; add lily and floating wheat for obvious mood changes, sensitivity and suspicion; add donkey-hide gelatin and Salvia miltiorrhiza for palpitations.
