7 weeks of pregnancy, progesterone 40 to 16

Progesterone in early pregnancy is caused by the progesterone of pregnancy, which can inhibit uterine repair and has the effect of nourishing the fetus. Now my progesterone level has dropped to 16, which is relatively low and cannot effectively maintain pregnancy, thus easily leading to symptoms of miscarriage. At 7 weeks of pregnancy, the progesterone level drops from 40 to 16, which is harmful to the body of pregnant women.

What does a drop in progesterone mean?

Women who have done prenatal checkups should have heard of progesterone levels. In the early stages of pregnancy, because the sperm and egg combination is very small, it cannot be detected by B-ultrasound. It is usually diagnosed by drawing blood for HCG and progesterone levels. Progesterone, also known as corpus luteum, is a natural estrogen metabolized by the corpus luteum of the ovary. It has a significant histological effect on the uterine wall stimulated by estrogen in the body and is essential for maintaining pregnancy.

In the early stages of pregnancy, the progesterone value should remain high. If you compare two progesterone test results and find that the progesterone value is lower than the previous one, it is very likely that there is an ectopic pregnancy or a problem with the embryonic development, and further examination is needed. The blood progesterone level of patients with ectopic pregnancy is low, which is medically recognized, so the progesterone level can be used as one of the bases for the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. If hCG alone is not enough to determine the cause, blood progesterone can be observed to assist in the diagnosis. The β-hCG value of a normal intrauterine pregnancy should increase significantly from the 9th to the 11th day, and then double every day, while the hCG metabolism of an ectopic pregnancy is low and the daily increase is small.

Reasons for a drop in progesterone

Generally speaking, there are the following reasons for a decrease in progesterone:

1. Threatened abortion, ectopic pregnancy, premature birth, amenorrhea, and infertility, which can immediately cause a decrease in progesterone.

2. Some women have luteal insufficiency. If the function of progesterone is not complete, the corpus luteum of the ovary will be underdeveloped, and the progesterone level will be relatively low. Compared with normal and healthy women, the progesterone level will be relatively low.

3. If there is a serious imbalance between adrenaline and thyroid hormone, it will also cause certain physiological changes, affect the ovaries, hinder and affect pregnancy, and hinder ovulation. The progesterone value will also be relatively low, but relatively speaking, it will be less.

Female friends can compare their own conditions to see what the possible reasons for their decreased progesterone level may be, so that treatment can be more targeted.

The harm of decreased progesterone

1. The average progesterone level of a normal pregnant woman is 25ng/ml (80.3nmol/L). A decrease in progesterone in a pregnant woman's body can cause threatened abortion or inevitable abortion (i.e., inevitable miscarriage, which is usually caused by the development of threatened abortion, but with more vaginal bleeding, more severe intermittent abdominal pain, or vaginal discharge). Exogenous progesterone supplementation is needed to maintain the early stage of pregnancy.

Progesterone ≥ 25ng/ml is normal, and progesterone between 15-25ng/ml indicates insufficient luteal function and requires luteal copper treatment, with a high success rate. If progesterone is ≤15ng/ml, treatment is of little practical significance and the pregnancy should be terminated as soon as possible.

2. In the early stages of pregnancy, the progesterone value should remain high. If you compare two progesterone test results and find that the progesterone value is lower than the previous one, it is very likely that there is an ectopic pregnancy or a problem with the embryonic development, and further examination is needed.

3. The progesterone level increases significantly during 9-32 weeks of pregnancy, reaching 10-100 times that of normal people, and the level of twins is higher than that of single pregnancy. If the progesterone level in early pregnancy is lower than the normal value and continues to decrease, miscarriage or embryonic arrest may occur, and tocolysis is necessary.
