What causes small ovaries?

The uterus and ovaries are female sex hormones and are the most important human organs for maintaining female gender characteristics and the female endocrine system. The ovaries mainly secrete estrogen and estrogens, which act on target organs to promote the development and maintenance of female sexual characteristics. So what is the reason why women’s uterus and ovaries are smaller?

The effect on the uterine wall can promote the reproduction of the endometrium and metabolic changes. Later, if the level of female hormones decreases, the uterine wall will undergo ischemic necrosis, bleeding and menstruation will occur. Menstruation is one of the most important signs of female estrus.

The normal size of the ovary is about 3cmX2cmX1cm. With the change of menstrual regularity, the size of the ovary may change slightly. If a woman has polycystic ovary syndrome, her uterus and ovaries will be significantly enlarged.

If after taking ovulation-inducing drugs, the uterus and ovaries are over-stimulated and the volume of the uterus and ovaries increases significantly, and at the same time, female hormones also increase a lot, a series of clinical syndromes will appear, which is called uterine and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. In addition to increasing in size, the uterus and ovaries can also decrease in size.

What are some of the reasons for the shrinkage of the uterus and ovaries?

First of all, if the ovaries lose the support of hormones from the upper stage and hypothalamus-pituitary disease or pituitary disease occurs, the ovaries may atrophy and the ovaries may shrink. A typical case in clinical medicine is Sheehan's syndrome, which is caused by internal bleeding during childbirth, which leads to ischemic necrosis of the pituitary gland, decreased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and progesterone, and inability to initiate uterine development and ovulation, resulting in symptoms of premature ovarian failure. Over time, the uterus and ovaries shrink due to dysfunction.

Secondly, physiological factors, especially age factors, cause the natural decline of the ovaries. Mainly, after the eggs are exhausted, the uterus and ovaries naturally shrink, resulting in a decrease in volume.
