What causes armpit pain during breastfeeding?

During breastfeeding, if there is pain in the breasts near the armpits, it is often related to mastitis. We know that if the breasts are not properly fed during breastfeeding, it is easy to cause blockage of the milk ducts, which is often easy to cause inflammation. At this time, it is important to avoid any problems and avoid problems with milk storage. If mastitis occurs during breastfeeding, timely and high-quality care and treatment are required.

What causes armpit pain during breastfeeding?

Most cases of breast pain after giving birth are caused by mastitis. In addition to breast pain, fever and lumps in the breast may continue, which is mainly caused by blocked milk ducts and milk accumulation. Therefore, breastfeeding should be done as soon as possible after giving birth so that there is no excessive accumulation of milk in the breasts.

From the above reasons, it can be seen that the causes of breast pain and breast cracking are related to the baby's improper sucking of the breast. Mastering the correct breastfeeding posture is the key to preventing breast pain. If nipple pain already occurs, how can it be relieved?

1. Before breastfeeding, the mother should take a comfortable position and apply a cold and damp cotton towel to the breasts and nipples for 3-5 minutes. At the same time, massage the chest to stimulate the milk ejection reflex surface and squeeze out some milk. This will loosen the nipples and facilitate the baby's sucking.

2. Feed the breast that is less painful first, and make sure to put the nipple and most of it into the baby's mouth. Also, make sure to change the baby's feeding site to relieve the irritation to the nipple caused by sucking.

3. If breastfeeding needs to be interrupted for other reasons, the mother can use her ring finger to gently press the baby's jaw, and the baby will automatically spit out the nipple. Never pull out the nipple forcibly, as this will damage the nipple.

4. If the nipples have cracked, squeeze out some milk after weaning, rub it on the nipples and nipples, and wait for them to dry naturally.

Mothers should wear looser underwear and cotton bras, and put on nipple shields when necessary to facilitate indoor ventilation and promote the healing of cracked nipples. If nipple pain is severe and unbearable, breastfeeding can be temporarily stopped for 24 hours, but the milk should be expressed and fed to the baby with a large cup and a small spoon.
