Breast pain like needles during breastfeeding

Breast pain like needles during breastfeeding

The first thing a pregnant mother should do after giving birth is to breastfeed the baby. Drinking milk is the nature of babies. Almost all babies learn how to drink milk at the first time. However, for new mothers, breastfeeding is not an easy task. Babies drink milk with great force, which often makes mothers feel unbearable pain. So what is the reason for the stabbing pain in the chest during breastfeeding?

1. Poor sucking

The most common reason for breast pain after breastfeeding is that the baby is not sucking well. When the baby sucks the nipple, he does not put enough of the nipple into his mouth, but only holds the top of the nipple. Repeated sucking will cause nipple pain.

2. Cracked nipples

After breastfeeding, the mother feels a needle-like pain in the nipple. This may be because the skin of the new mother's nipple is relatively tender and cannot withstand the stimulation of the baby's sucking, especially when the milk is insufficient or the nipple is too small or stuffed. Because the baby sucks and bites the nipple hard, the nipple skin is soaked by saliva and becomes loose, peeled, and eroded, resulting in cracks of varying sizes.

3. Pain in milk secretion

If you feel breast pain after breastfeeding, it may be milk secretion pain. After feeding the baby, the breasts are empty and the mammary glands will produce milk violently, especially at night when the milk secretion hormone is high and the milk secretion is large, the pain will be more obvious.

What to do if breast pain occurs during lactation?

1. Proper breastfeeding posture

If the breasts are sore after breastfeeding, the mother should adopt the correct breastfeeding posture, feed with the breast that is less painful first, and pay attention to putting the nipple and most of the nipple into the baby's mouth, and also regularly change the baby's feeding site to relieve the irritation of the mother's nipple caused by sucking. Do not pull the nipple out forcefully, as this may damage the nipple.

2. Wipe the milk

If a breastfeeding mother experiences breast pain after breastfeeding or her nipples are dry and cracked, she can squeeze out some milk after weaning and rub it on the nipples and nipples, and wait for them to dry naturally. Never use soap to clean the nipples, because there is a gland in the nipple or nipple part that secretes plant oil to protect the nipple and prevent cracking, and washing the nipples with soap will remove this natural protective film.

3. Wear a pure cotton bra

If the mother's breasts are sore after weaning, she should wear loose underwear and a cotton bra, and put a nipple shield when necessary to facilitate ventilation and promote the healing of nipple cracks. If the nipple pain is severe and unbearable, breastfeeding can be stopped for 24 hours. When breastfeeding is not possible, the milk should be expressed and the baby can be fed with a bottle.
