What to do if you have milk blockage and fever during lactation

For breastfeeding mothers, having less breast milk is very annoying, and milk blockage is also a very painful thing. Milk blockage is something that many breastfeeding women have encountered before. Mild milk blockage can be drained with a manual breast pump, but if the condition is serious and accompanied by fever, you will need to consult a lactation consultant and even take related medications.

What should I do if I have milk blockage and fever during breastfeeding?

Generally speaking, symptoms such as milk blockage and fever during breastfeeding may be caused by blocked milk ducts or bacterial infection and inflammation of the milk ducts. Such symptoms should be treated with anti-inflammatory and anti-infective drugs in time. For example, dandelion granules and its compound honeysuckle granules can help reduce swelling, inflammation and pain.

Try not to breastfeed your baby during the period of milk duct blockage and fever. It is best to breastfeed your baby three or four hours after taking anti-inflammatory drugs. During the treatment period, you should also pay attention to maintaining the smoothness of the mammary ducts to prevent blockage. You can use massage techniques to drain the milk in the breasts. Then pay attention to your diet and try to keep it light in taste. Avoid spicy, greasy, and irritating foods. Drink plenty of water to promote metabolism and enhance your immunity.

What are the causes of milk blockage during breastfeeding?

1. Epithelial cell tissue. For every mother, during lactation, the lumen of the mammary ducts undergoes normal metabolism and sheds epithelial cell tissue. Just like dandruff, many people lose small pieces, while many others lose large areas. If the fallen epithelial cell tissue is large in size, it is very easy to cause milk blockage, and it is very easy to recur.

2. The milk is thick. Some mothers produce thick milk with a high fat content, which is easy to coagulate into large milk knots and cause milk blockage.

3. More breast milk. Some mothers are "milk cows" or even "abnormal milk cows" and cannot clean their breasts frequently, which is the reason for their milk blockage.

4. The mammary ducts are thin. In fact, the diameter of the mammary ducts of every mother is not the same. The normal size of breast ducts is 5, but hers is only 4. Mothers with thin ducts are more likely to get blocked. For many mothers like this, even when the milk flow is smooth, the milk line is very thin.

5. Nipple problems. For example, nipple fillings, short and compact, etc. The resulting breastfeeding is incomplete and the breasts are often not cleaned properly; for example, nipple cracks, reverse infection, and mammary duct inflammation.
