Is it normal for a 13-year-old to not have her period?

The first menstruation is called the first menstruation. The time of menstruation for everyone will be different due to differences in physical fitness, natural environment and other factors. Some people come early, but some people come late. No matter whether they come early or late, it will cause confusion. Women who have their first menstruation often feel overwhelmed. But what if you don't have your period at 13?

What should I do if I don't have my period at 13?

In girls, menstruation, also called a period, begins 2 to 2.5 years after the first signs of puberty appear (usually breast development, but sometimes pubic hair appears first in boys). Girls have their first period between the ages of 10 and 15. However, some girls begin puberty earlier or later than others.

To tell when your period is coming, one clue you can use is to check your underwear for female discharge. This type of transparent or whitish mucous secretion usually appears 6 months to 1 year before the first menstruation.

You can ask your mother when she had her first period. Girls who have their first menstruation late often find that their mothers or other female family members also entered puberty later.

Some girls do not have their periods due to male hormone imbalance. Women who are underweight or have an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa may find that their periods become delayed. Women who exercise regularly may not have their periods until they stop exercising and playing high-intensity sports. Severe work stress and some illnesses can also delay menstruation. It is also possible for a girl to be pregnant before her first menstrual period arrives.

If you have doubts or concerns about when your period will come, you can consult your doctor. Also, if you still don't have your period after you turn 15 or three years into puberty, let your doctor know.
