How big is the yolk sac?

The yolk sac appears in many women after they become pregnant. Generally, the yolk sac can be seen through B-ultrasound examination. Many women are particularly worried about fetal growth retardation after they become pregnant. They want to know whether they have fetal growth retardation. Perhaps they need to consider the development of the yolk sac. In addition, the judgment of fetal growth retardation not only depends on the development of the yolk sac, but also the gestational age. So, how big does the yolk sac have to be to be considered fetal growth retardation?

1. If the menstrual cycle is regular, a fetal bud will be present at 5 weeks of pregnancy and fetal heartbeat will be present at 6 weeks of pregnancy. If there is no yolk sac after 6 weeks, the possibility of fetal demise cannot be ruled out. It is recommended to go to the hospital for a follow-up ultrasound examination one week later. If there is still no yolk sac at 8 weeks of pregnancy, it is considered to be intrauterine fetal arrest and a uterine curettage should be performed immediately. Generally, if the gestational sac is larger than 7 weeks and there is no development of yolk sac, it is very likely that the gestational sac has stopped developing. You should rest actively and don't feel stressed during these days. Judging from the results, the gestational sac is relatively large, so you can postpone going to the hospital for a few days for a follow-up examination. If there is no development for a long time, you should actively choose uterine curettage abortion and pay attention to preventing anemia.

2. If you are pregnant, generally speaking, as long as the yolk sac continues to grow, it means that the fetus has not stopped developing. However, sometimes it may be that the embryo is developing abnormally and it is just an empty sac, so you need to go to the hospital for examination and then receive symptomatic treatment after diagnosis. The yolk sac will only appear when the pregnancy is about one month old. Of course, fetal arrest does not necessarily occur only in the early stages of pregnancy. It can also occur when the fetal heartbeat appears. It can also occur when the fetus is already very large, in the middle and late stages. So this is not the decisive factor. It mainly depends on the development of the fertilized egg embryo.

3. The chance of fetal arrest with a yolk sac is much lower than that without a yolk sac, but it does not mean that there will be no fetal arrest. Generally, the chance of developmental arrest will be greatly reduced only after the fetus and placenta stabilize at 13 weeks. Even if there is an embryo and fetal heartbeat in the early stages, it cannot be guaranteed that the pregnancy will not stop. If only the yolk sac is found during the current examination, then it is necessary to judge based on the gestational age. If the time is not too long, you can wait 10 days before rechecking.
