Vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy

Vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy

Vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy is a normal physiological phenomenon. Women will experience vaginal bleeding within one week after the operation, mainly because the vaginal wound has not yet healed. Vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy needs to be stopped within one month, and women should pay attention to vaginal hygiene and go to the hospital for regular deformity checks. They are not allowed to have sexual intercourse during the vaginal recovery stage.

1. There are two wounds after a hysterectomy, one is the abdominal wound and the other is the vaginal wound. When the patients were examined after discharge, everything was recovered well, but soon after discharge, there was vaginal bleeding, which made them feel very anxious. When doctors perform excision surgery, vaginal wounds are often sutured with intestinal sutures, which do not need to be removed. When the intestinal sutures break during absorption, a small amount of bleeding will occur, but this will stop within a month. This is a normal phenomenon and patients don't need to worry too much. This is also the most common cause of vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy, so don't panic.

2. However, if the patient has vaginal bleeding for too long after hysterectomy, then we can consider whether it is caused by infection of the vaginal stump. For example, granulation tissue growing on the vaginal stump may cause bleeding after collision. We should go to the hospital for a follow-up examination immediately. Proper postoperative care is an effective way to prevent postoperative vaginal stump infection. Also, after the operation, female friends should not participate in strenuous exercise and try to rest as much as possible.

Based on the above introduction, vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy is actually a normal phenomenon. However, if the bleeding lasts for a long time, for example, the amount of bleeding is heavy for more than one month, it is very likely caused by infection, and we should go to the hospital for a follow-up examination. If there is less than one month and the amount is relatively small, then this is normal and you don't need to worry too much.

What should you pay attention to after hysterectomy

1. Take adequate rest. Generally, patients are discharged from the hospital 4 days to 1 week after hysterectomy. They still need to take adequate rest after discharge. They can do some activities indoors for the first week after returning home, and then take some outdoor walks depending on the specific situation. They should not overwork themselves.

2. Strengthen nutrition. Some patients often have mild anemia after surgery. They should be given nutritious food, such as chicken, duck, fish, meat, etc. They should also eat some fresh vegetables. If necessary, they can take oral blood tonic medicine according to the doctor's instructions.

3. There may be a small amount of vaginal bloody discharge or bleeding 1 to 2 weeks or even 1 to 2 months after the operation. If there is a lot of vaginal discharge, don't be nervous, just rest in bed. If the amount of bleeding is similar to or exceeds the amount of menstruation, especially if accompanied by blood clots, please see the surgeon in time.

4. After the operation, you should keep your bowels open and avoid heavy physical labor within six months, especially activities that increase abdominal pressure (such as lifting heavy objects, squatting, etc.).

5. Go to the hospital for a check-up 1 to 2 months after the operation to understand the wound healing situation; those who retain their ovaries should have a gynecological examination once a year.

6. Total hysterectomy does not affect sexual life. Generally, sexual life can be resumed after a doctor's examination 3 months after the operation.
