What to do if the bleeding is not during menstruation

Most women's vaginas will only bleed during menstruation. Bleeding at any other time except during menstruation is an abnormal phenomenon. The main causes of bleeding include vaginitis, excessive sexual intercourse causing scratches on the vaginal wall, etc. There are also a small number of women who have residual blood due to incomplete menstruation. However, if the bleeding lasts for a long time, you should go to the hospital for examination. What if the bleeding is not during menstruation?

The following are the common causes of vaginal bleeding during non-menstrual period:

1. Delayed menstruation: If menstrual bleeding occurs after a delay of 7-10 days, do not assume that this is definitely late menstruation. You should pay attention to whether the amount, color, and duration of menstrual bleeding are the same as normal menstruation. If menstrual bleeding is sometimes more and sometimes less, and is continuous and accompanied by abdominal pain, you should pay attention to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy or threatened abortion; if menstrual bleeding is more than usual, lasts longer, and dysmenorrhea is obvious, it is often seen in uterine fibroids or endometriosis. It is necessary to seek medical treatment promptly.

2. "Ovulation bleeding": Western medicine calls it ovulation bleeding, and Chinese medicine calls it "intermenstrual bleeding." Some people only have a small amount of brown discharge, which usually lasts for half a day or 2-3 days, and no more than 7 days at most, and may be accompanied by mild ovulation pain and back pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is required, but if the symptoms are obvious and may affect fertility, treatment should be given.

3. Vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse: The phenomenon of vaginitis bleeding after sexual intercourse is called contact bleeding, which is often related to gynecological diseases such as vaginitis, cervical erosion, cervical polyps, early cervical cancer, and submucosal myoma. You should see a gynecologist as soon as possible.

4. Functional uterine bleeding: Its manifestations are usually irregular menstrual cycles, excessive menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation or irregular uterine bleeding. The principle of treatment is to stop bleeding quickly, adjust and establish a normal menstrual cycle after stopping bleeding, and prevent recurrence. Due to long-term bleeding, some people also have varying degrees of anemia, so correcting anemia is also very important.

5. Emergency contraceptive pills cause menstrual disorders: Some women may also experience vaginal bleeding after taking emergency contraceptive pills. Emergency contraceptive pills can affect the menstrual cycle, especially repeated use can lead to menstrual irregularities, menstrual bleeding, and prolonged spotting. It is also important to remind you that some women may have their menstruation affected due to the abuse of some "health products" and "breast enhancement pills and creams" containing hormones.

6. Prolonged vaginal bleeding after miscarriage: Generally, vaginal bleeding will stop about 3-7 days after artificial or spontaneous abortion. In very few people, it may be prolonged due to physical weakness, fatigue, etc., but this needs to be judged by a doctor. If there are no special circumstances and the vaginal bleeding lasts for a long time, after excluding intraoperative injuries, cervical inflammation and other conditions, it is very likely that there are residues in the uterus. At that time, the doctor will decide whether to use medication or uterine curettage after examination. Otherwise, after a period of time, the remaining fetal membrane tissue may turn into choriocarcinoma.

7. Vaginal bleeding after treatment of hydatidiform mole: Women who have had hydatidiform mole and have continued vaginal bleeding again within two years after regular treatment may have early symptoms of malignant hydatidiform mole and should seek medical attention immediately.

8. Vaginal bleeding in menopausal women: There are two possibilities for vaginal bleeding in menopausal women, especially after the age of 60. For some women who are still sexually active, due to endocrine changes after menopause, the vagina becomes dry. If some lubricants are not used, it is easy to cause mechanical damage to the vagina and cause bleeding.
