What to do if there is excessive vaginal discharge during pregnancy

After pregnancy, due to the effect of estrogen in the body, the water in the cervix and vaginal walls and the blood in the blood vessels increase than usual, so the secretions also increase. This is a normal physiological phenomenon.

1. The acidity and alkalinity in the vagina changes during pregnancy, making it more susceptible to infection. Therefore, to avoid cross-infection, pregnant women should have their own basin and towel to clean the vulva.

2. Pay attention to personal hygiene and keep clean. Wash your lower body with warm water every day, generally once a day. If the secretion is particularly heavy, you can do it twice a day. But be careful not to flush the vagina, and don't use any washing liquid, so as not to destroy the normal flora and cause infection.

3. Do not use sanitary pads frequently to avoid poor breathability and accumulation of secretions which may lead to the growth of mold, bacteria, etc.

4. When wiping after using the toilet, you should wipe from front to back. Remember not to wipe from back to front. Because the female physiological structure is that the vagina is very close to the anus, wiping from back to front can easily bring dirt around the anus into the vagina and cause infection.

6. Underwear should be changed every day. After washing, it is best to soak it in boiling water for a while, and then expose it to the sun to allow the high temperature and ultraviolet rays to sterilize the underwear.

7. Vaginitis is a common complication during pregnancy, which may be bacterial, Trichomonal, or fungal. Therefore, if you find that the color and properties of the secretions are abnormal, and there is a distinct odor when you smell them, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time, otherwise it will affect the newborn during vaginal delivery in the future.
