What to eat before giving birth

You should eat some nutritious food before giving birth. These foods will improve your physical strength and make the delivery process smoother. Not eating well will also affect the final result of the delivery. Mothers must not be too nervous, but should maintain a calm mood to make the delivery better.

Diet and Nutrition

During labor, due to uterine contractions and pains, some women are not quiet enough, and they refuse to eat or even drink water. This is unscientific. Childbirth is equivalent to heavy physical labor. The mother must have sufficient energy supply to have good uterine contraction force and full cervical dilation to have the physical strength to give birth to the baby.

Failure to eat and drink properly will cause dehydration and insufficient blood volume in the body's circulation. Of course, the amount of blood supplied to the placenta will also be reduced, causing fetal hypoxia in the uterus. Therefore, when giving birth, the mother should eat high-energy, easily digestible foods, such as milk, chocolate candies and her favorite meals. If she is really unable to eat due to tight contractions and great discomfort, she can also replenish energy by taking in glucose and vitamins. Especially in the hot summer, women sweat a lot during labor. If they don't eat and drink well, they are more likely to become dehydrated. For the health of the child and the mother herself, it is necessary to pay attention to diet during labor.

examine

The progress of the labor process has certain regularities. To determine whether the progress of labor is normal, we mainly observe the progressive dilation of the cervical opening and the progressive descent of the fetal presenting part. These two aspects of examination must be confirmed through anal or vaginal examination. Anal examination is more convenient, but it does not directly touch the fetal head and cervix, so its clarity is less than that of vaginal examination. Also, because the examination is conducted across the recto-vaginal diaphragm, too many examinations may cause infection.

Vaginal examination requires strict disinfection before it can be performed, otherwise it may cause infection. However, vaginal examination can clearly understand the degree of dilation of the cervix, such as the position of the cervix, its hardness, the position of the fetal head, whether the fetal head is deformed, and whether its relationship with the pelvis is correct. Therefore, during the first stage of labor, medical staff will perform an anal or vaginal examination every 2 hours. If the progress is not good, even if the cervix continues to dilate but the fetal presenting part does not descend, or the presenting part descends satisfactorily but the cervix does not dilate, or neither of them makes progress, it indicates that there is a problem in the progress of labor. The doctor will deal with it in time according to the situation. During labor, every woman must cooperate with the medical staff to do this examination.
