What to do when you reach menopause?

1. Wear multiple layers of clothing, preferably cotton. If you get hot flashes, take off your outer clothing. Also, drink a glass of cool water or cold juice when a hot flash starts.

2. Wear cotton pajamas and keep the bedroom cool. Put extra sheets on your bed. When hot flashes occur, wet the top sheet and remove it.

3. Pay attention to your diet. Don't drink alcohol or eat spicy food.

4. Keep exercising. Some women find that regular exercise can lessen the effects of hot flashes and help them sleep better.

5. Eat more tofu. Beans contain a substance from the same family as estrogen that may help relieve symptoms like hot flashes. You can also drink cool soy milk when hot flashes start.

6. Be patient. The symptom of menopause is "the rabbit's tail - it won't grow longer". It will gradually disappear within 3-5 years at most.

7. Treat vaginal dryness. It seems that decreased libido is associated with vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can cause painful intercourse. There are vaginal lubricants on the market, which come in two types: water-soluble and estrogen-containing. They can lubricate the vagina and solve the problem of vaginal dryness during sexual intercourse.

The most prominent symptoms in women are sweating, hot flashes, heat mood disorders, abnormal sensations, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue and other symptoms. In severe cases, menopausal depression or menopausal schizophrenia may occur, requiring appropriate psychiatric drug treatment.

Menstrual disorders, even menorrhagia and anemia. Severe cases may require a blood transfusion. Persistent menstrual disorders are a high-risk factor for endometrial cancer.

After menopause, the skin becomes loose, dry, wrinkled, and the body shape changes. Most women will become obese when they enter menopause. This is due to changes in female hormones and blood lipid metabolism, which causes weight gain.

In the late menopause, osteoporosis is more likely to occur. About 20% of women over 70 years old suffer from osteoporosis. Every year, 8.9 million fractures occur worldwide due to osteoporosis. About 20% of patients will die within one year after hip fracture (due to underlying disease or complications). Less than 50% of survivors regain their pre-fracture level of function and quality of life. So don’t think that a fracture is an emergency, it may lead to serious consequences and functional impairment.

After ovarian function declines, vascular atherosclerosis gradually appears. 5-10 years after menopause, the incidence of coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction gradually increases to the same level as that of men. Coronary heart disease rarely occurs in women of childbearing age. This is very different from men.
