Female tailbone pain when sleeping flat on back

If a woman experiences coccyx pain while sleeping on her back, it may be a symptom of coccyxitis. Coccyx inflammation is usually caused by compression of nerves due to prolonged sitting or exposure to cold. The occurrence of coccyx pain does not rule out the possibility of lumbar muscle strain. Lumbar muscle strain may be caused by long-term heavy lifting work. Severe lumbar muscle strain may also lead to lumbar disc herniation. It is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.

Osteitis, usually presents as coccyx pain.

In a broad sense, it is a syndrome of spontaneous pain caused by various clinical reasons such as injury to the coccyx or sacrococcygeal joint, infection, tumor, after childbirth, after anorectal surgery, gynecological surgery, and around the coccyx.

This syndrome generally has no obvious history of trauma and is more common in middle-aged women.

Since the disease has a relatively long course and symptoms disappear very slowly, patients must be patient and receive treatment step by step, and not rush to seek medical treatment.

Specific treatment can be achieved by changing sitting posture.

That is, try to sit with your thighs to reduce the weight and pressure on your buttocks; when sitting, you can use air cushions or air rings to lift the painful area to prevent local compression and thus relieve pain.

Secondly, it can be treated with infrared, ultrasound, ion introduction, massage, acupuncture, cupping, Chinese medicine oral and external application, etc. If Chinese medicine is used for external application, the drugs that relax muscles and tendons, promote blood circulation and relieve pain can be put into a cloth bag, put into a pot, add water and boil it, and then apply wet heat to the affected area; local application of blood circulation and pain relief ointment or musk analgesic ointment is also effective; go to the hospital for local blockade, that is, use 2-4 ml of 2% procaine plus 0.5-1 ml of hydrocortisone acetate to block the local pain points, which can achieve immediate results.

If the coccyx deformity is obvious and conservative treatment is ineffective, surgery is the only option.
