The relationship between corpus luteum and follicle

When a woman goes to the hospital for a check-up after becoming pregnant, the doctor will recommend that she check her progesterone level. If the progesterone level is too low, the doctor will recommend that she take measures to preserve the fetus. However, if the progesterone level is normal, the doctor will also recommend that she rest more in the early stages. So what is the relationship between progesterone and follicles? Let me introduce their differences to you below.

Difference between corpus luteum and luteinized follicle

Luteinized unruptured menstruation syndrome is a special type of ovarian anovulatory menstruation. During the normal ovulation process, a dominant follicle in the ovary develops and matures, ruptures in the middle of the menstrual cycle, releases the egg, and forms a corpus luteum at the same time. A large amount of estrogen is secreted before ovulation, and a large amount of progesterone is secreted after ovulation. Under the action of estrogen and progesterone, the endometrium changes from the proliferative phase to the secretory phase; the cervical mucus changes from clear and transparent to thick and turbid; and the basal body temperature shows a biphasic characteristic. However, there are two characteristics in patients with luteinized unruptured syndrome:

① The follicles show signs of maturity, with peaks in estrogen and luteinizing hormone, but the mature follicles do not rupture or release eggs but continue to grow. Luteinization of follicles Luteinization of follicles② A corpus luteum is formed in the unruptured follicle, which secretes progesterone to act on the cervix and endometrium; the basal body temperature is biphasic.

The ovulation test strip is a reflection of the hormone level in the body, not a reflection of whether the follicles can be discharged. Therefore, even if the follicle is luteinized, the test paper may still show a positive result. This can only be determined by serial observation through ultrasound examination.

There is a layer of chemical on the ovulation test paper. The amount of chemical applied on each brand of test paper is certain. When the LH in the woman's urine on the ovulation day is less than the amount applied on the test paper, no strong positive result will be detected. Usually in this case it is not that there is something wrong with the woman's body, but that the test strip is not suitable for her.
